Will Be Away from MyLot

Just for a few days. My world is enlarging as I take a short road trip and get together with family. It's a great time of year to be on the road, the weather is really nice and not many are traveling right now since school is still in session. I always took my kids out of school for travel. I found it never hurt their grades and the benefits of seeing new places and museums invaluable. My friends wouldn't dream of doing this. The grind continues day in and day out for them until scheduled holidays come around. What did you do? Plan your vacations around school hours or weather? Spring and Fall are the best times to sightsee. I hate slogging around in the massive heat and crowds of summer. Not that I have any kids in tow these days! I'm footloose and fancy free.

The schools here no longer allow kids to be out for family vacation traveling. They mark them as absent and it affects their school records. I think they are wrong, because travel can be an educational experience.

yes, honestly, why do schools have to think they should have all the say in the raising of the kids? if a parent wants to take a vacation, then that should be their choice

This happens in Australia now. You need permission etc. It's a lot of rot I think.

@Jeanniemaries I cannot believe that they would bother remaining open without you, but may be late reopening.

It's so hard to get away when you have critters! I so prefer the dry heat! I know I appreciated it when I went back to California after a summer in Michigan!

Some schools in theUK fine parents for taking the kids out of school, though some parents argue that the fines are cheaper than what it would cost to take them away during the school holiday period....

It's harder to be a parent today than when I was raising kids.

I was going through my 'following' list and realised I hadn't seen you for a while. We are fancy-free too and enjoy being able to pack up and take off whenever we want. Hope you're having a great time.

I am! I'm driving home tomorrow. I planned to go to Disney first but may not. I think a day on the beach by my house would be more fun!

enjoy your trip. i prefer to do any travel when people are in school so that we have more to ourselves... I don't like visiting touristy places when it is crowded
