Fire Fighters in Dallas don't just put out fires.

The number of emergency calls in Dallas, is enormous in number, at least in the Southwest Division where I am most familiar with as I have a dual trunking hand held multi-band scanner. It keeps me on top of what's happening in and around my city. I have spent a number of hours listening in on my scanner to the point of nauseating The number of automotive accidents far outnumber fires in Dallas. The number of emergency calls made are in the dozens an hour all over the city. When there is a lul and no announcements are being made that is the time they get to go shopping at the local grocery stores but while they are shopping for their food supplies they are ready and able to, at the drop of a hat, react to an emergency. The things firefighters have to deal with is enormous and it takes a special type of dedication to perform 24/7 to save lives, to rescue a man in a crashed and overturned truck and to handle the real deal of a 5 alarm apartment fire! My hat's off to the men and women of our local Fire Department, Southwest Division and that goes double for the Dallas Police, the men in blue. My hat's off to you.

i can only imagine in such a big city! We don't get much here as we are a small farming community.

Even in a small community like yours is, the police or the local sheriff and fire station is there just in the event of an emergency. Lately in the state of Oklahoma there have been so many cases of earthquakes and tornadoes even the smallest town needs to be protected. But I hope in your case things are going smoothly and without many bad emergencies.

Firefighters of our local fire department also came to the rescue of a man whose foot was stuck up in a manhole the other night. Instead of a concrete cover, 1 1/2 inch pipes were used as cover and probably the pipes were already rusted and thus it gave way when the guy stepped on it. The firemen had to cut the pipes using a circular saw.
