Scams are everywhere!

I've had an ebay account for years and never had any problems (well, a couple, but nothing major.) Recently we received an item from a buyer who was returning the defective item to my husband. Huh? My husband doesn't even like ebay and if he ever wants to sell something, I do it for him. Didn't think too much about it (tried to contact the person to let them know we weren't the seller), then today we got ANOTHER item that we've never bought, let alone sold! Let's just say, it should be listed in the "adult" section. I finally got through to ebay and it turns out someone opened an account with my husband's name and address, but with their own Paypal account. They had over 200 items actively for sale! I guess if there was a dispute, the problem would fall on my husband. Ebay finally agreed to close that account. Goes to show that anyone can use your name and you might never know it! Photo of our adorable grand-baby!

Thanks, Marlina. So far, no more problems. Our little one is a cutie, isn't she?

I hope that the problem is not bigger : if the PayPal was verified, it might be a complete identity theft, and you will perhaps also receive soon or later his taxes and tickets to pay. You should contact PayPal and request information on this account with the name and address of your husband.

@1creekgirl I think it is, and you should better lodge a complaint now. If this person has already a bank account with the name of your husband, you are at risk to have a lot of troubles, especially if he lives in the same area than you.

I contacted Paypal and they are addressing the problem. Ebay suggested that I also contact the police since this is identity theft.

I'm sure the majority of people on Ebay are honest, unfortunately there are dishonest people everywhere.

That's so true. It boils down to identity theft. I'm glad things were resolved. It's ridiculous.

I'm thankful so far we haven't had any more problems....that we know about, anyway!

This is true. My ex-husband went to all sorts of places and signed up for junk mail. He used his name and my address (a house I bought several years after our divorce). He did this to make me crazy. But my friend had a simple solution. I went to the post office and did a change of address so he got his own junk mail. This wouldn't work for eBay, of course, but it goes to show that this type of thing is common.

@1creekgirl He stalked me for eight years, even after he remarried. Sheesh.

That's true. That is one reason I do not write my home address in public and I do not want to sell online unless I have a business address to use.

That sounds very wise. I wonder if you could do that with Ebay and Paypal?

Technology can be a good thing, but there's sure a lot less privacy.

I cannot believe it. It's too easy to create fake accounts, make money and if there is a dispute the problem fall to someone who does not even know to have an account. Pretty scary.

wow! ebay should have a security system or policy which checks on duplicate accounts. You clearly were victims of a scam.

My account is only in my name, but somehow they found my husband's name and address on the internet and used it to open a new account. We'd have never known if we hadn't received those "returned" items.

Hi Vicki. My satisfaction with ebay has been decreasing more and more since I first opened my account over 10 years ago. I have been a seller and a buyer, now I am only there on a blue moon.

I very seldom sell on Ebay any longer. There are just too many selling the same items and being willing to sell at a ridiculously low price. I still buy sometimes, though.

I agree scammers are every where.
