"If you don't let me talk to grandma, then I will hold my breath!" I couldn't help it. I laughed. This is the first time any of my children have pulled this stunt. "Go for it, honey." I smiled, "I was going to let you talk to grandma, but now you've completely lost your opportunity. Next time, don't have such a snotty attitude." Her cheeks puffed like a squirrel as she held her breath for all of five seconds. Then the air whooshed out and she shuffled off in defeat. Yesterday her neighbor friend came over to play in our backyard. It got dark and he had to go home. "If Jay can't come back RIGHT NOW," my daughter threatened, "Then I will cry ALL NIGHT." I raised my eyebrows. "Sounds like you're going to have a rough night. Have fun with that. I'M going to be sleeping." Needless to say, she slept like a baby last night. Not a peep from her room. I guess Jay isn't worth crying over. She even pulls these intimidations on her big sister. "If you don't read me a story, then I will try to hit you in the morning." I would have said, "Do or do not, there is no TRY." But Big Sister just shrugged, said, "Okay." And then turned back to the novel she was reading. By the time morning came Little Sister had forgotten her promise and Big Sister was laughing up her sleeve. I don't know where my daughter got the idea that she can threaten us. I don't understand why she thinks her attempts at pressuring us will work...they never, ever have. And they never will. Because I don't negotiate with terrorists.
