Charlotte - being my grandmother,
the Prince - later reigned as King George VI;
a Nasturtium hand painted tea set - the Nasturtium hand painted tea set that was gifted to my grandmother on her wedding day from the King of England - King George VI. (Prince George still in 1934)
When the postcard from my dear mylotter friend arrived yesterday, it totally reminded me of a photograph I had seen on the mantle in my grandmothers home many many years ago, for she has been in heaven for 32 years already.
My grandmother was an Irish immigrant with the maiden name of Peters. They lived in East London, South Africa and she was a young woman who was commissioned, together with other ladies, to "smock" the Royal Children's clothing.
On the Kings arrival in SA - he got to meet my grandmother with gifts for the wonderful work she did. On her wedding day, he sent my grandmother, who was Charlotte Alma Peters soon to be Willis, a beautiful Nasturtium hand painted tea set - this I have in my home today.
Thank you John for another wonderful postcard and a flash back to a momentous childhood memory.
I wish I had listened more carefully to the stories she told, there might have been some other extraordinary tales among them.

I wish I had recorded the stories now, because they are gone and we all only remember bits and pieces
