We’ve got a karaoke party planned for next weekend. It’s something that I have been doing for quite a while and we’ve got some new friends who want to try it for the first time. I bought a nice karaoke machine and we will have the party here at our house. Everyone brings some food and we SING. I used to sing with live bands when I was a teenager and all through high school, I was always on stage, singing in variety shows and I even sang on a talent show on television. I like to sing Patsy Cline songs and Wynona Judd songs. I also like Martina McBride and Miranda Lambert songs. I also sing a lot of 50s songs too. Do you like to sing karaoke? Picture by Pixabay

I've never tried karaoke but I don't think it is really me. I like singing with others round a piano or something but not so much on my own.

Our family used to sing around the piano too, and many of my cousins could play the guitar, banjo and other stringed instruments. And as I said, I used to sing with live bands when I was in high school and even after I got married. But, when I found out about karaoke, I just had to learn how to do it and now I have such fun with friends and family who also enjoy it. We have several karaoke places that we can go to, but unfortunately, most of them allow vulgar songs and the "bars" are just too rowdy. We used to have a really good place to go, where the KJ would not allow vulgarity, but then the restaurant changed hands and we never went back. Now, we just get together here at my house, since I bought the karaoke machine.

@JudyEv At least, I don't have to drive anywhere, so that works for me. Sometimes, I used to have to drive home very late by myself, if my husband didn't go and twice I was stopped by the police, who were probably thinking that I had been out drinking. One even made me breathe into a breathalyzer. I was very upset about that. He pulled it out of his pocket and it didn't seem to me that that was very sanitary. I told him that I didn't want to put it in my mouth and he said that if I didn't, he would have to arrest me. I was livid. I had no choice but to do it. I don't drink and drive. In both cases, the police LIED to me about WHY I was pulled over, telling me that my tail light was out and it wasn't. It was just an excuse to pull me over and SEE if I had been drinking.

@IreneVincent That's a great solution - and you don't have to drive home! :)

I have been singing on stage most of my life and I've been told that I'm good at it, so I do enjoy that very much.

Sometimes karaoke "bars" are not the best choice. We used to have a nice restaurant that had karaoke and it was very nice, but the restaurant changed hands and the new owners allowed rowdiness and vulgarity, so we stopped going there. Now, we just do it here at my house from time to time.

It's a great past time, specially with friends and family members. I like to sing karaoke but only if I get to hang with my friends in the university where I am enrolled at the moment.

Karaoke is a Japanese word, so I'm thinking that it originated in Japan???

karaoke is FUN. Do you like to sing? I had to practice singing karaoke, because I was used to singing with a live band that followed my lead. With karaoke, a person has to follow the music and the words on the screen. It takes practice to do that, but now I know how to do it.

I do not believe that i have ever been to karaoke. I do not believe we have a place to go to in Jerusalem. Maybe people in their homes do it but I have never been to a party. The parties sound like lots of fun. You have an advantage unless others sing too. Are there some that do not want to sing because they know they cannot sing worth a darn.
