The Human Touch

We have all heard of the miracle of the human touch, and healing from the laying on of hands. I have always been a little leery of this. But I know comforting hands are soothing to the sick person, or to the healthy for that matter. It's nice and relaxing to snuggle up in your hubby's arms, to hold your baby close, or have a soothing massage. So, maybe the human touch is healing. I was reading about research going on now that proves people live longer who are in a good marriage with a loving partner. The research shows that these people are healthier and live longer. What is your opinion about health and the human touch?

@Hatley My grandmother talked away fire. She would say words over the burn and it wouldn't blister.

One of the quilting ladies that I loved, who has now passed away, told me when I first joined the quilt guild that you needed so many hugs in a day to stay healthy. I miss her hugs. I used to be a touchy feely type person with my significant other, but now I'm not. I actually hug quite a few people at church, but rarely even touch my husband (that's a whole other story) But yes, I believe there is something to your well being having to do with touch.

@Hatley I know, smoking is a killer, but you can't make anyone stop unless they want to.

I don't know if it's the actual touch that works, but knowing that another person cares about you enough to touch and caress you could make all the difference

I believe energy is transferred through the touch. Really notice when your hubby holds you. Can you feel the energy?

I believe that laying hands can be a very effective treatment, there is much more to the world than meets the eye. We all need the human touch.

I think that's likely true. It's strain and stress to live with an incompatible person.

I agree, they have done studies that married people are happier than single so I think the touch is part of that.

I've read that married people live longer than single people even if they don't get along.

@RubyHawk I'm glad I grew up in a family where hugging was encouraged. My friends know that I love to hug and thankfully they reciprocate very well. It is much appreciated, believe me!

@CRK109 That is the way it should be, but to a child that grew up without touching, touching is uncomfortable. My mama was a hugger in later years, but it was too late. Some of my sisters are huggers and some are not.

I think we all possess some kind of energy. I think we can transmit a little part of that energy through touch. Touch can be calming as when we touch our crying child, or our frightened friend. Touch is very important. Science has suggested that babies who are not touched sometimes fail to thrive. (Won't eat, etc.)

I have heard that babies raised in orphanages don't thrive because they don't get the human touch. Poor babies, I feel so sorry for them.
