Changing Internet Service

I went online to pay my Internet bill and found it had gone up $16 over last month's bill. Totally ridiculous! I have my landline attached to my Internet, but still it shouldn't cost almost $90 just to be able to enjoy the Internet. Not when I'm seeing better rates than that from other providers. So Time Warner is history. When I logged in to their site it said they had just merged with Comcast. I knew they were, I didn't expect a price hike like that though. So now I'm with AT&T and will be connected with them the end of the month. Oh and the installation is waived when I move, so I will only pay a one time installation fee. I think these services think we're made of money. I'm on a fixed income and can't afford a huge Internet/phone bill. I prefer landline to cell as I only have 250 minutes on my Obama phone - free government phone which is talk and text only. So I need the landline. Anyway, my bills are paid today and I'm ready to rock and roll with you. I hope you're having a great day. It's Friday, the sun is shining, it's warm, and I'm in shorts. Nothing better than that. Thanks for reading.

I am on a fixed income also. I have digital cable and both layers of stations as well as two DVRS and have all three together. That's internet, cable and telephone. The telephone has gone to Comcast I noticed. I know that my cable does have to hike their prices occasionally. I understand that this happens because they have to pay more for some stations. They all want a good amount for their services. I really don't know what the answer is to having it all work out so everyone is happy. I know I couldn't do without my cable.

@just4him ...Ghee, what a nice one to have around. Too bad you don't have someone close to you who is more positive and a help to you. Sounds like he has some odd ideas. Doesn't sound like he cares about your writing enough to read it for himself. That is so sad. A family should stand behind you and not put you down and try to get you to quit doing the things that you enjoy.

@just4him ...Glad he isn't real bad. I would just set him down and tell you enjoy this, it isn't going to stop and you would appreciate less of the negative from him.

@celticeagle He's a good kid, but just doesn't like me spending any time writing, not even on here. When I told him what I made on here last month, he was quick to say he made that in one day on his job. A jab of course to the fact I don't work. We had some 'words' a couple days ago about the way he puts me down. However, on the whole, he's not bad and we get along well.

good to hear your bills are paid, btw skype an internet call provider works really great in terms of cost. You can call anyone unlimited in the world for like $10 a month.

@just4him there's a Skype subscription that let you call world wide landline and mobiles for hardly anything at all. I use that to call friends and family who's not on Skype

@Drosophila I had that, but when I lost my job I couldn't afford it so had to give up the Skype number. I still have my Skype account for PC to PC which is completely free, but I don't get hardly any action on it.

I have Skype and pc to pc is free world wide. My problem none of my family want to Skype. I had the phone number for a couple years, but I couldn't afford to keep it one year, so I cancelled it.

We have DSL but thru the company that I work for, so I get a 10 dollar discount. Which is about a third of my monthly charge. My phone bill is separate, but even if I cancelled that, the cost for a dry loop, which is what you need when you have DSL but no active home phone line, is only $5 with our company.

@just4him We do not sell dial up. DSL stands for dedicated second line, the internet travels over the phone line but you can still talk on the phone while being online. I prefer it, and it is superior over cable internet as cable internet is a shared service, meaning that the speed is shared with those in your neighbourhood and during peak times the speed drops.

@Juliaacv Thank you. I wondered what that was. I always thought it was dial up.

That sounds like a deal, though I didn't know anyone had dial up anymore. Or is DSL something different.

there are alot of big mergers going on, and from being inside one (not the 2 mentioned) I am NOT liking what I am seeing in terms of integrity and quality for the customers

@Jessicalynnt I never read the bill. I paid online before the bill came out. I didn't see anything about it on the site except that they were merging.

I was shocked at the huge rate hike. I don't even remember seeing anything about it, only that they were merging. It took that to make the switch and I'm saving $20 a month.

I'm not quite in shorts yet, but maybe tomorrow as we have a bear of a job planned. I use Charter for my phone, internet and tv service. That's not great either especially since it went up after a two-year plan. I think it would get lowered if we consider dropping one of the services, then and only then they may offer us a discounted price. Our bill is about 115.00 or so each month and the past several months I've been behind. I've been pretty busy lately. In fact, I should be calling potential customers not playing here. I could probably find something on your page about your upcoming move and where you expect you'll move to. Would you want to tell me a few titles to look for?

@just4him I figured you probably already wrote about your upcoming move elsewhere, but maybe not. I thought if you mentioned something about it on a post about something else entirely, then I wouldn't know what 'titles' to look at. That's what my comment about titles was referring to.

For all three, that's not a bad price. It would be a lot higher here. You lost me about titles. I won't know for a while yet about where I'll be moving too. I hope there will be options. In the meantime, I'm cleaning and getting everything ready for the move.

That is good that you changed services to save money. Those services are sneaky and raise your bill a little by little in hopes you wont notice it.

Internet options are not too bad here. it's our electricity that's about to take off here, just as winter is setting in.

Me too. I'm paying $20 less. Still a lot, but from what I've seen for what is available to me, that's the best I'm going to do.

My ISP charged $10 more last month than it was before. There was no notice at all, they just did it because they could. When I started, it was $50 for phone and Internet bundled. Now it is $136+. It is the same service. We do not even get cable. I just got the new bill and it is still $136 plus some change.

@just4him In the particular spot where I live, the only other choice is even more expensive than the one I have. We changed over to the cheaper one that everyone here seems to have but then the price kept increasing. There are other options closer to town but in this park, there are only two.

@akalinus I only have two options as well. I'm glad the other was cheaper. I'm locked in for two years on this rate.

Those companies do seem to think they can raise their prices whenever they want to and no one will say anything. One of these days these will find they don't have as many customers as they once did because no one wants to pay those high prices.

Wow, a free cell with talk and text? Cool. I can see why you'd need a landline though. My landline is going up too, and it's just local. Annoying. 17 dollar increase.

Everything is going up except the money we make. There needs to be a change somewhere, so I made the change with the Internet. We'll see what else changes in the near future. I'm sure there will be with the move I'm about to make.

When I was ready to move, it just so happened that my last contract with Verizon had ended, so I was able to work another good contract with them. If that hadn't happened, I'd be changing the way I do things, too. You're right, they do think we're made of money. Thankfully, there are other more feasible ways to get the connections we need.

Yes there are. I have been thinking about changing service for a long time now, but this morning was the straw that broke this camel's back. I'm not paying an exorbitant fee for Internet.

We have AT&T and will get it here when we move into our house. It is the cheapest that we could find before.
