Learning More About Retirement

As the author of the Baby-Boomer-Retirement blog, I try to stay up-to-date on all the latest retirement information.
Today, MyLot member @ElizabethWallace and I attended the Orange County Senior Summit. It was fun spending the morning with Elizabeth and the different speakers were quite educational.
As you can see from the photo above, today's meeting kicked off with the Color Guard from the local American Legion Post.
The speakers included a senior services director, the CEO of CalOptima (a program for people who are on both Medicare and Medicaide), the president of our local community college, the manager of the Office on Aging, the director of the Social Services Agency, a deputy district attorney, and the director of the local Health Care Agency.
Together, these speakers provided us with a great deal of useful information ... which will appear in my retirement blog over the next few months. I'll also share some of it here!

I am sure there are programs all over the country, although they might be called something different.

It was put on by the county where we live. It is the ninth year in a row. Your local government might do the same.

@Marcyaz I learned one thing that I will follow up on this weekend. We were told that 50% of seniors who qualify for assistance in buying food do not even apply. We also were told that many things are subtracted from income (like rent or mortgage payments) before the income is assessed.
I'm looking online to see what those things are. I am sure my sister qualifies.

@DeborahDiane's blog is really informative. I read it every week, and learn something new every time. She went to this summit last year and told me about it. I asked to to let me know when it came around again, so that I could go too.
We both had our bone density read. The scan was pretty accurate, since we both knew our last reading (from our doctor's office) and these were very much in line with them. The company has some sort of machine at their place of business to "build more bone". I intend to look them up, as it sounds like a scam to me. But I could be wrong, so I'm going to do research too, just in case it is legit.
Grateful that Debbie let me know. It's always fun spending time with her.

You are not alone. Two-thirds of retirees do not have enough money. I wrote often about ways to increase retirement income.

I was worried about what life would be like at retirement but not any more. We are both retired, but we are both still doing what we love to do (as a job) part time. Being able to travel a lot has been fun too. Looking forward to your retirement posts.
