Now I Know Where Pinto Horses Come From!

Like many young girls growing up, I loved horses. I dreamed of having my own and riding every day. Of course, I had no idea the enormous upkeep costs of a horse and I had no experience in taking care of such a large beast, but that hardly mattered! In my little-girl mind those were little kinks that could be worked out over time. But I digress. I'm not here to talk about the pros and cons of horse ownership or the outrageous costs of keeping such a magnificent animal. I'm here to talk about ME. And my dad. And how naive I once was. My dad knew how much I loved horses. He was also a tease. One night as he tucked me into bed he let slip a little secret: "Did you know that if you plant a pinto bean, in the morning a pinto horse will have grown?" I was around ten and completely gullible. This condition was so bad that when I was told the word "gullible" was written on the ceiling, I looked. When I was told that those with Irish blood have hairy knuckles, I had to double check my own. When I heard that if you say the word "gullible" reeeeaally slowly, it sounds like "oranges", well, I tried it. So you can imagine what I did as soon as I got my hairy knuckles on a pinto bean! I still want my pony. How gullible are you...or have you grown out of this syndrome? Did your parents ever use your gullibility to pull one over on you? How about you with YOUR kids?

No. But I've thought about telling them if they plant a quarter, a money tree will grow. The oldest two kids wouldn't fall for it but the youngers might. And then I'd go a step further and while they were sleeping at night, I'd jam a stick in the spot where they planted the coin and tie dollar bills to the stick to make it look like something grew. Mwhahahaha!

@Genipher - Ms Genipher - And here I had always thought that it required 2 pintos to make 1 quarto.

And four quart(er) horses make a gelding. I'm totally on board with that!

I was very gullible as a child but I really don't remember a specific time where my parents used it on me. My children are not gullible like I was at their ages.

Same with mine. I tried some of those tricks on my oldest and she just looked at me like, "Duh, mom." I guess that's a good thing??

Well, I am reading an interesting discussion that was posted over two years ago in hopes that the author (my friend) is still receiving notifications from myLot, so she will come see what I am doing on her old discussion... I'm not doing anything... Just reading and learning a bit about a friend.

I guess kids need to be like that, sometimes. It's like we believe to magic, its the imagination.
