The first thing I do when I get to myLot in the morning...

...is go to 'Most Recent Discussions' and scroll down the list to see what was posted while I was gone. Then I check my notifications and messages. But I realize a lot of people don't do it that way. Instead, many of you concentrate on the discussions of those you follow. Or you do your notifications first. The way I do it gives me two advantages, to the way I see it. #1 - I get to see all discussions posted. I keep seeing people saying how 'slow' it is here...maybe the people you follow haven't been posting, but there are a ton of discussions posted by everyone else here. #2 - I don't end up making a post about a situation that has already been discussed or taken care of...like the spammers Mikiko and Sadser. Yeah, we all hate getting spammed, but the majority of the discussions posted were after the spammers had already been banned. Scanning the Most Recent would have told you that, instead of getting yourself worked up about a problem that was already solved. But hey...it's yourLot, so you can do it any way you want. I'm just passing on how I do it. And this deal with 'followers' and attaching so much importance to what they post over everything else. I don't, won't, and refuse to reply to a discussion just because it was posted by someone I 'follow' and I need (or feel I need) to reply to a discussion by them. All discussions posted here get the same chance of an interaction from me...I don't base it on whom I 'follow' (since I only follow Admin anyway) but on what subjects interest me. So JohnnyJumpingJoyously gets the same chance of a response from me as GoAskAlex_Admin, basically. (Although Alex does post only Important Site Stuff, so I am likely going to go see whatever he posts) But yeah...myLot...we all do it different. What works best for me may not work for you. But it works for me. And after is, it is myLot.

Good morning. Well said, if we posted and replied to the posts only from people we follow, myLot will be divided and nothing will go on. glad to know Mikiko and the other are gone back to where they came from. Like you, someone commenting on my post does not mean i will comment on their post, i reply what interest me and leave the rest, never mind if they reply to 100 of my posts, l don't do give and take very well.

I think some users feel they 'owe' it to someone that responds on their discussions, and really, I hate when someone only responds to one of mine because i responded to one of theirs. To me, a discussion needs to stand on its own merits, and not be a quid pro quo thing.

@JolietJake I dont expect anyone to respond to my discussion because i responded theirs,l don't see myself adding anything on Russian/Greek diet for example so even if the person responded to 100s of my discussions and asked me straight to respond to their Greek diet, l will have nothing to add so l will pass.

@JolietJake Exactly! I only respond if there's something meaningful to say. Or if I can be witty. At least, I THINK I'm being witty. Don't burst my bubble.

Horses for courses, or unto each their own. The "Most Recent Discussions" dropdown was a recent addition, I believe: It has been a godsend.

@JolietJake Ah, my mistake! The Activity one is of perhaps less use than the discussion one, I find. Yours is a strategy I have used, but I do tend to hit the Notifications first, I must admit.

@pgntwo I use 'activity' if I get really bored and want to jump in the middle of a topic that is currently active.

Actually, that has always been available under Explore, the addition is Most Recent Activity

First thing I do here in mylot is: go over my notification. When I'm done with that, I check recent discussions. Like you, I don't post things that others have already posted too. Especially the most obvious ones that people would immediately jump into writing.

I used to do my notifications first, but swapped it and started doing it the other way several months ago.

@JolietJake I might do the switch too but at the moment i'm comfortable with doing the notification first.

@toniganzon You can tell I've already been around an hour or so when a discussion from me pops up, because I always do the other stuff first before I start a new one.

Wow I do the exact same thing probably because I havent been here for too long. Of course there are some people that I know that usually post interesting discussion, butother than that, I go to the most recent ones. And since I have to open myLot from my phone for now, I only respond and comment ob people's discussion because I hate to type long things on my phone

that's a good way of doing it. I do tend to check notifications, all recent discussions, and the discussions of those I follow. Although not always in that order. I tend to go back and forth throughout the day.

@JolietJake there's nothing wrong with that. In this case, you should do what feels right. If you don't follow, that's fine.

I have come to the realization it does not matter what way I do it. I go with the ones I know. I try to branch out but I am scary. lol I clearly think differently than most people and that is fine. People still stop by unexpectedly and that is fine as long as it is not my house.

Don't normally check my messages first thing, but do make sure to check them and respond. No need to respond to the messages this time. They were both spammers. How do you delete the messages?

Looks like a tutorial might be needed. Messages at myLot can be deleted, but you have to know how to do it. First, click on the message to 'open'...

I usually check my notifications first, then go to my "followers" discussions. I follow them because they write about subject I enjoy, or I just like hearing about what they have been doing. Next I will go to most recent, as you said, everyone needs a chance to be "heard".

I decided 'following' wasn't much sense, because although I may like some of their discussions, I won't like all of them, and besides, I'll see them under 'Most Recent' without having to check two different lists for discussions.

Notifications will have been setting there for 6-7 hours anyway for me, so they can wait a bit longer until I catch up on what has been posted under discussions.

@trivia79 Yep, that's all I usually sleep and I come here as soon as I wake up. And then I only work part-time, so those I get then only sit 5 hours at the most.

Sounds fair enough for me. Now I see why it is #MyLot .. ohh does hasgtags work here? Hahaha I really like your point of reading current or most recent discussions.. also gives you the chance to interact not only with new people, but those who are currently active.

Like you, I focus mostly on most recent discussions, later in the day I do Hot discussions or Top discussions for a break. I try to get back to everyone who responds to my discussions, but I found a discussion I had totally missed a couple of months ago. I find I have plenty to do. I felt left out, as the spammers completely ignored me. Of course I would have reported them right out of the gate.

That's a good idea! I like what you said, it's myLot! I used to just straight away go to notifications, as I am always trying to catch up with the list. Lately, I always clear my cache before I turn off my computer, so every morning I have to login again, and before I log in, I get to see many interesting new discussions or top rated discussions, so now I always visit them first. I like this way too, as it helps me to explore new discussions from new people as well.
