Dabbling my toes into car repair

The other day I finally figured out how to change my headight. It was so much easier than I thought it would be. I think I block myself at times by thinking "it has to do with a car, it's got to be hard." At the same time, I find that these little, long fingered hands of mine are pretty good for getting into the tight spaces under the hood of my faithful Hyundai. It was the same when I changed my first set of wiper blades. Easier than I thought it would be. I've changed my own oil, know how to change a tire, and can top up things like windshield washer fluid, steering fluid, etc. I've jump started several cars, fairly simple really. Right now, the main thing that is keeping me from changing my own oil is the fact that I don't have a good set of jackstands and a jack, and it's a pain to take the oil in for recycling. Easier to have someone else do it. These little car care tasks are so simple, and yet I was once afraid to do all of them.

Oh my, I am impressed! I have changed a tire and can top up the windshield washer fluid and have jump started cars. But that is it! Luckily I get reimbursed for all of my oil changes by mystery shopping. But everything else I have to pay someone to do.

At least you'd get your oil changed a lot! I like that.

Well, I don't do it any more than I would if I were paying for it. But it is done regularly; that is for sure. @Rohvannyn W

I can do the break lights, but the front of the kia requires too much being taken out of the engine

Good on you! I have no motivation to do the same.

@Rohvannyn. I am proud of you. Years ago Dad had a super bad day when he changed a car light bulb. The darned thing had three kinds of screws holding it together. Cussing ensued.
