I try to plan around October but never in July. Heard of many people having a Christmas in July! Well one Christmas spending spree is quite enough for me! Think I will try and make an item or two for a few family members.

I used to take German students to Germany in the summer. Since the kids wanted to shop, I did my Christmas shopping there at thesame time. It made for a relaxing holiday season.

@dianadee One year, I bought everyone wool scarves I bought in a little boutique just outside Notre Dame. Another year, a set of ice cream shovels in a German department store. Then, I bought everyone a gorgeous new umbrella from an umbrella shop in Innsbruck. The side benefit...I bought one of each category for me too. Still have them all three decades later.

@ElizabethWallace What unusual gifts. Especially the ice cream shovels. Lovely gesture!

I have been to a Christmas in July party and it was fun. You were asked to bring a small gift nothing expensive for a male or a female. The party was fun and the gifts were a big hit.

We do no celebrate Christmas in July in South Africa. The idea has not really taken off here! Not where I live, anyway. Sounds like you had a great time!

I always worry that someone will buy what I am buying for them if I buy as early as July. It would be nice to not be so last minute though.

There is that problem of duplication ..but it is not likely in a sea of gifts!

Now that idea sounds appealing to me. A little every month until you have all the items you need for Christmas!

I'm a last-minuter, or at least a last-weeker. The week before Christmas is time enough for me!

At least you can get it done in quickly and find last minute bargains!

Is it because there are sales in the store?

great idea. I know what you mean. I am one that don't like the shopping and figuring what people like

I had an aunt who shopped for Christmas all year long. She would keep her eyes open for what she thought would make a good gift for someone then buy it when it was on sale. Most of the time she had all her Christmas shopping done before December. Sometime she would even be done by August.

Sometimes we might go to a celebration for Christmas in July but it wouldn't normally involve presents. I do try to buy stuff through the year though to save on expenses over Christmas.

No, I always wait for the Advent season to buy gifts. So early for me to buy them in July.
