The Car Wash Mafia

Perhaps there is and perhaps there isn’t such a thing as a car wash mafia. This is what I want your opinion about. For many years now we have had a Statoil gas station with the usual 24 hour store on a corner of our main street here in our neighborhood. The gas station also built a car wash but I have never seen anyone use it and I walk past there hundreds of times. Then across the street they built a tire store selling new and used tires. They also built a car wash and now we had two places with car washes but never saw anyone use their services. Practically right next to this tire store they started building another object. I was thrilled hoping it would be a supermarket or mall or something like that. Then a sign went up informing everyone that it was going to be the site of the largest car wash in Riga. Now if there was no business for the other two why in the world are they building the largest car wash in Riga in our suburban neighborhood? Wait folks, it gets worst or the mystery deepens. On the other side of the street the Statoil is on the corner, then a large two story house and then there was a field with a cluster of old trees. One day I’m heading for the store and I see they’ve cut down all of the trees except for one. They’re starting to build again. Another sign goes up to inform everyone that this will be the site of an office building with a car wash block. Please help me to understand why in such a small area, in a suburban neighborhood you need three car washes plus the largest car wash station in Riga? The picture is of the car wash at the Statoil.
