Good news for all Filipinos: I heard on television that incoming President Rodrigo Duterte plans to increase internet speed and tap alternative energy sources to provide cheaper electricity. He said he will talk with internet service providers to improve their services or else he will open the market to better competitors. For the energy source, he said he is open to using solar panels and other environment friendly sources instead on using fossil fuels or coal to generate electricity. This is a welcome development for all of us. Hope he will really do it when he assumes office.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if your new president was able to make some positive changes? I hope it all happens.

@acelawrites Our politicians sometimes get hampered by the opposition going against anything they put up.

@JudyEv Then they can not move or their plans be hampered to the detriment of service to the people.

Let's just hope these are not just "for show" and that he will really show his teeth to these telco giants. We've already seen what happened to Telstra under Pnoy's administration, so we should be vigilant in reminding Duterte of his promises regarding internet speed and cheaper energy.

We were so happy about the entry of Telstra; but there were news that a network giant already bought it! Let's hope it will be fulfilled, but a recent appointment for the post of a communications office is said to be n ex- officer of one of the big service providers in the country.
