Online Earning

Earnings from online sites won’t pay our bills and fall short of our yearnings! Of course, there was a flash in the pan when one site made a big splash on the scene but flattered to deceive in the end. It resonates with the “Cargo Cult” during the Second World War and some who benefited recall it with fond memory. Others, let down, even look at it with contempt! I am still with one site but I am dormant there with regard to new postings though I visit almost every day for good old time’s sake. It has stopped payment but few soldier on but the wind has been taken out of my sails when many either left or became dormant. It will be like playing to an empty gallery if I persist there. MyLot also did stop payment for a while but some would have just carried on. That sets me thinking. If our fond hopes come true that we can make a living out of sites like these, unemployment across the world will be history! I think five hundred dollars a month will be fine for most to think of letting the fingers do the talking! What is your take? Well, here is not a place to earn much enough(even $500 a month) to pay our bills, but a place to interact with the friends all over the world, at least for me. It's hard to imagine to make a living online.

@Shiva49 It is hard to separate the wolves from the goats with a lot of these on-line writing sites. Some make big promises, few deliver on them. I have been writing for various sites for more than ten years now. None have ever compared to Helium.com, which has gone now. You could make some reasonable money there. They paid you $1 or more for every article submitted. I dream of those heady days again.

Yes, even hundred dollars is beyond the realm of practicality. I spend hours almost every day without even reaching the minimum payout now set at $5. However, if it was possible to earn few hundred dollars, then you can find many giving up their jobs in some countries to let their fingers do the talking and from the comforts of home - siva

@Shiva49 Yeah, you are right. This is just a motivation that entices the users to keep active online. If it guarantees the users earning enough money to pay their bills, the society frame, to some degree, would be affected.

Sorry, but that would be very little money ($500.00) for us to live here in Canada.

@cacay1 When politicians play "dirty" politics and blame each other all the time then we cannot expect much for the common folks. In countries like India, people have realized they cannot depend on governments and no one owes them a living - siva

In some less prosperous countries $500 is a tidy sum to attract many to go full time on online sites - siva

I doubt if anyone would be able to make a living online.

I think BB gave lots hopes, but obviously their model was not sustainable. I think no one can make more than couple of hundred dollars a a month even being on many sites - siva

I realized that as I was into so many sites one day. Soon, I gave it up. I am here on this site only because I need people (read friends) around with whom I can live, talk, laugh, cry, play, be silly... in short, be myself. I stayed back even when they stopped paying but eventually when I realized that I was the only one around, I had moved to Facebook where I found and connected with many from here. Today, I do work from home, but am now not involved with sites that pay. I have my own website and my own clients for whom I work. And yes, I do not get a hefty amount each month, and it is way less than 500 USD a month, still I am happy that I earn enough to pay my electricity, Internet and health. I know, I need to expand and earn more now, but at the moment, i have a very busy schedule. Maybe in the months ahead, things will fall at place.

Thanks for your input. I was just thinking aloud. I don't make even the new minimum payout of $5 every month, but I enjoy the interactions I know many here don't as it is not worth the effort and also they need a job that pays the bills. I know $500 is quite impossible through online sites though few claim to have made it through BB site. However, if online writing is able to pay that then we can see a rush to join the party as many in poorer countries do not make it even on a full time job - siva

if a person could make that much a month doing blogs, yes, then unemployment would cease. Nice dream.

That was what I was driving at. Many millions around the world can sit at home and make a living. That maybe the reason it is not happening too! siva

I agree, one can not make a living out of here, it is merely for fun and friendship; the earning is some sort of a reward for taking your time here.

I have been in few sites over the years. I have found it makes a big difference between little earnings and no earnings - siva

What is Cargo Cult? Have not heard of that one. When Mylot did not pay I have to admit I took a break from it.

i'm not sure what those two sites are i don't understand the cargo cult concept, either, and how it applies to online sites as long as there are other sites to go to, people will try them out as long as what a site pays out is more than what it earns, then it will eventually close down it's always better to start small. it also minimizes cheating.

I have given a link to my post on Cargo Cult (at the bottom of my post). People got exotic goods during a brief period in the remote island of South Pacific when US troops landed there during the Second WW. However. all the goodies were past when the war ended. Likewise, one site gave great hopes with some earning almost $500 a month but it proved fleeting. I think there is no site that pays for writers to make a living and I was wondering how earning $500, like few managed for a while, would get us back into a "feeding frenzy" - siva

I don't see how anyone will ever be able to make a living out of sites like these. They are just for fun and pocket money.

If one is able to manage multiple sites then the rewards should be higher. I am active now only here - siva
