Schools Adjust Academic Calendar

Some schools in our country had adjusted their academic calendars in tune with the academic schedules of other countries. So instead of starting classes this June, they moved it to August and it will end in May. The vacation would be June and July instead of the usual April and May in time for the summer months. This move is in line with the ASEAN integration wherein school classes in Southeast Asia will have the same academic calendars. Officials aimed at allowing students from other Asian countries to cross-enroll or have their vacations at the same months. Other schools have not yet adjusted their schedules. What do you think about it?

I've heard about this but I really have no opinion about it. Probably because I'm done with school...

@acelawrites the traffic during school days affect me most. I'm irritated to no end but then again, it is always traffic here in Manila. It just gets worse when there are classes.

@allen0187 I know your woes, that's why we moved away from Metro Manila although there is also traffic congestion here in the city during school days and some time even when there's no classes. Too many vehicles on the road!

If you have a son or daughter who are still studying, then you will somehow be affected by it.

Yes, and pupils and students would have to endure the summer heat in April and May which were usually vacation time on the old set up.

UP was the very first one who did it I think two years ago and Ateneo followed. I don't mind it. I think it's good.

Yes, UP Diliman and Ateneo followed. But other outside units of the UP system just recently followed. La Salle have it too, though they have trimesters already.

This is probably a good idea. In Australia the long break is over December and January which are our hottest months.

You have the hottest month and that is our coolest. It is the opposite.

The public schools here are starting their classes this June, I don't think they move it to August as proposed but some schools here are already starting their enrollment especially the Senior High School.

The university where my two daughters are studying started calendar shifting last year. That's why my eldest daughter will graduate on June 2016 instead of March 2016.

It may look like they have used the academic diary as basis for changing. As a teacher though I can't help but wonder if it is more to do with exam time and changes to exams taking place.

It was aimed at synchronizing with other schools at Asia and other parts of the world. I don't know about the exams. Maybe the entrance exams for enrollment of exchange students from different countries.
