Was watching one of the news stations just a few minutes ago, I think it was ABC or NBC? Not a local station for us..
Anyway, they were talking about a local story. Bus in Charlotte, NC ran into a man's home. The news report didn't make it too clear, but it seemed the driver lost control somehow? Went down a small embankment and rammed into a tree and part of the guy's house.
We heard to 911 calls, first from the bus driver herself and the other from the homeowner, who seemed to be rudely awakened by the crash.
The bus driver has been suspended with pay, pending investigation. I think the children were all alright.
I imagine that the homeowner will soon be suing the school system, or trying to at the very least. Why? His home has been condemned due to the damages.

I have crashed a car against the wall of the garden of a house to avoid another car. My insurance paid for the damages (the wall was down), and it did not cost me a cent, even not an increase in the insurance premium, as I had not had any responsible accident in the 10 previous years...

@ScribbledAdNauseum This kind of events happens everyday. It might depend of the insurance, but normally his insurance will recover the money for him from the insurance of the bus, and will sue them if they do not pay. I would go to the best hotel in town until the end of the works needed on the house, and I would send the bill to my insurance which would ask the bus insurance to pay for it...

I'm not sure how homeowner's insurance would work or anything like that... He may not sue, but it has inconvenienced him all the same.

I hope not either! I hope she'd have better sense than to text, especially whilst transporting children!

Yes! It seems all are okay, but the bus driver might end up losing her job, depending on what they find happened.

At least the students and the bus driver are okay. I guess the media like to bring out the bogeyman with these bus accident stories to entertain us.

I am glad that, as you say, no one was hurt. And I do certainly hope the home owner gets full coverage for her property damages.

It's just sad as I believe this is the fourth incident I've heard this year. Are you having to deal with any flooding there?

@lookatdesktop I've got a couple of online friends who live in Texas, they don't seem to be affected with flooding yet though. Last time I saw it didn't seem the rain was going to abate.

@ScribbledAdNauseum , Near and around the Brazos River area, heavy flooding has destroyed many homes and roads and rain has not completely ended in many areas of Texas.

I hope there was no mobile phone being used during the drive! If it were then I think the woman should lose her bus license and no longer be eligible for any transit job.

Seems today mobile phones are everything, people feeling they are missing something if they do not use the phone for a few hours.

@miniam Yes, everyone's head stuck down looking at the screen. I remember when we hardly even watched the t.v., it was all about being outside and experiencing.

How awful!
