In between times on Mylot I have finished my laundry and put everything away. I wanted to go read on the deck awhile, but the sky grew dark, thunder and lightening roared in and now it's raining, so that's it for swinging on the deck today.
I'm reading Fern Micheal's "The Blossom Sisters". It's light reading and that's all I'm up for right now. I also have Lewis Grizzard's "You Can't Put No Boogie Woogie on the King of Rock and Roll".
Grizzard is also the author of "If I Ever Get Back To Georgia, I'm Gonna Nail My Feet to the Ground." Grizzard was a Georgia Boy who died several years back during heart surgery. He was my favorite funny guy.
I also have Langston Hughes book "Simple Uncle Sam" Hughes also wrote "Not Without Laughter" and "The Ways of White Folks" among others. I love all his books. Have you read any of these authors?,
Langston Hughes published "Simple's Uncle Sam in 1965". At least that's what I see on the inside cover. Here is an a paragraph from the book. "What is this the big shots are saying about us Negroes being cool because there might be a Negro President in 2011 in the U.S.,huh? If I am going to run for President, I want to run now, because by 2011 I would be too cool." I would bet that Langston Hughes would have been bowled over to know that we really do have an African American President.

I have never heard of any of these authors. Truthfully, I have never been a big reader. Blame it on my mother who never really encouraged me to read. Reading was a chore for me. Nothing I read could hold my interest long enough to read a book from start to finish. I found myself skipping around until I go to the end.
Having to do book reports for school was quite difficult. I did skip around the book and managed to get what the book was about. Always got good grades on my reports.
I have been reading a book for about a year now. I am almost finished with it and can't wait to start the second in the series.

That is interesting, my first son wasn't interested in reading other than what he had to read to keep his grades up, but i found a book when he was in grade school that I hoped he would enjoy, I still remember the name of the book, The Blue Hen's Chick, and since then he has loved reading. My two other sons have always been big readers. There's still time for a good or funny book to snag your interest.

@ElusiveButterfly Isn't that also a TV series, it sounds familiar but I haven't seen the series, or read the book.

I can't read much anymore. Not that I was much of a book worm as a kid. Though, yeah. You could almost say that book predicted the future. I mean, we do have an Aferican-American president and he ran for two consective terms. So, yeah that's petty funny.

@kaylachan I thought it was interesting that Langston Hughes predicted in 1966 that we would have a president in 2011. He was looking 50 years in the future.
