She Said Something

So if you don't know, my mom died back in early May, at 55, of dementia. She'd had it for nine years, and she had been "gone" for many years. My dad just remarried. He's 60, his new wife is 62. I mention her age because I think she knows better. Today she said something that inadvertently insulted my mother. My dad didn't hear her, so I gave a pointed and clipped reply, and that was that. But I'm unfortunately dwelling on it. She's a nice lady. She's been divorced for years, and lived in the same town all her life until she married my dad. I wouldn't have thought she'd be petty. It's just once. I know I need to let it go so I'm talking about it here.

Sometimes people say the wrong things. If you don't want to confront her about it then just don't take it personally and breath it out. But if I were In Your place I might tell her it upset me so that next time she'd be more conscious about it.

I'm hoping it was just an accident, like she didn't mean it the way it sounded or something. I would hate to see this woman get ugly and causing strife in your family. Not all stepmoms are like that (from what I hear) but my father-in-law's second wife was not very nice.

Hopefully your quick and quiet remark let her know that she need not make such insults in the future. Good for you, now you can let it go.

She was wrong to say something offensive for your mother. I hope it was just an isolated accident.

Have you considered that she might be in the beginning stages of dementia herself and not even know it? It is possible. Either way it was wrong of her to insult your Mom.

Her mind is okay, but I think she was feeling insecure.

There are times that we need to conceal one's feelings. I am sure it would be fine. We just need to let it go and think positively.

That is sad about our mother. She was to young to have dementia.
