Back in Baby's Commercial

It's a ferocious argument: the use of songs in commercials. Some people screamed "sell out" when David Bowie, Tina Turner, or Glenn Frey not only had their music in commercials in the 80s but also appeared in the commercial. (I found Frey's Pepsi ad particularly funny and ironic, given that the Eagles sued their publisher for telling Firestone they could use "Take It to the Limit" in an ad, with his quote that "those songs are our birthright and our children's heritage." I guess "You Belong to the City" didn't qualify. ) Recently Mazda has been running a commercial featuring the great Patsy Cline song "Back in Baby's Arms" as the soundtrack. I love it. I sure can't turn on a "country" radio station and hear her, so I'll take the ad. Here's the full song if you've never heard it:

I used to be the "sellout!" guy. Eventually, I realized that it's their music, and they have the right to make as much money from it as they can. I haven't seen this commercial, but at least they used a classic!

I think it great and causes me to pay more attention to a commercial when they use old favorites like this. I am sorry they are not going about it correctly.

I love many of Patsy Cline's songs including, "Crazy" and "I Fall to Pieces," but this one always reminds me of a scene from Planes, Trains and Automobiles (my favorite 80s movie.
