River Seine rises, Louvre floods, France declares flood emergency!

Paris and the River Seine

I was well aware of the flooding in Germany and then this morning the news highlights are about the Seine rising to its highest level in more than 30 years causing Paris to declare the city flooding. "Torrential rain forced thousands of people from their homes south of Paris while the River Seine surged to its highest level for over 30 years in the French capital, shutting down the famed Louvre and Orsay museums and a metro line." I have been on the metro, as well as to the Orsay Museum and Louvre, so i can imagine how a tourist must feel not being able to visit these places in the Emergency state. So if you were a tourist in a flooded Paris, what would be the thing you should do? Sit tight, or venture into the streets and walk some of the sights? I know that I went to Versailles in the rain - we rented a golf cart that had a roof and took some amazing photos in the rain. We had a chilly but lovely day ended in a grand cappuccino like only the French can make! Praying that Paris stays safe during this time, as well to all the German towns that have been affected.

I would simply walk in the streets, there are so many interesting places to see in Paris. About the cappuccino, I feel that their cappuccino is more than a latte with coffee than a real one.

@Inlemay I preferred to drink coffee there. In the south, near the border, they make a little better cappuccino, but it's watery and the foam not as thick as the Italian one.

probably - the Italians do make much better cappuccino, but when in France . . .

Let´s pray for those who might be victims to this flood. Thankfully our area is not flooded but some of our nearby towns. It was horrifying in the south of Germany where there was flood in the houses of the people. Have seen these on TV.

I am watching that footage on CNN and SKY news all day long. I am back from the shops, so now I can rest and have a cuppa while I watch with my lunch

@Inlemay Enjoy your cuppa. I am drinking my black creamy PG tea before starting cooking for lunch.

It only means that climate change has affected many places in the world. Is that the river Seine in the picture ?

yes that is. I went through my archive to find the one that you can see the river winding as well as a nice landmark - Eiffel Tower in the background

Do not panic they moved all the priceless art to the top floors so they did not get damaged. They had a couple of days to do it thankfully! If you didn't want to get your pinkies wet you could have gone to the third floor of the Eiffel tower!

Luckily most water dries up again, but leaves such a muddy mess.

A little bit of rain never stopped me sightseeing, but I would think twice about venturing into flooded areas.

Rain has never deterred me neither, but I am concerned about the flooded area's - they might be hazards

@bwjsdems I have been watching, that has already happened, people are always in danger when there is a flood. rescue operations are all ago in France and Germany it seems, and I hear its raining in Ireland as well - lets hope it doesnt flood there

@Inlemay Hopefully there won't be too much severe damage. The heartbreak is that people will lose possessions, homes, livelihoods and even possibly lives before the floods recede.

I saw this on the news last night. Paris looks like it is too flooded to even attempt to go anywhere.

I thought that as well - but this morning I see the water has subsided a little and things are moving again - but slowly

I to have been to Paris and this would be a disaster for tourists who probably have limited days in which to wait things out.
