I Pay Less for My Daughters' College Education

My eldest daughter( in the photo) will be graduating in college on June 13. She and my second daughter are studying in one of the State Universities in our country that I considered having the best quality of education. State universities are being subsidized by the government. Yes, they're being subsidized by the government, which means I pay less for their school fees for only $65 for every semester or $130 for a year only. We parents are lucky that our two daughters were able to pass the entrance exams for the said university. By the way, I also graduated in the said university, and during our time we didn't pay a single centavo for the school fees as they called as Scholars. Is college education expensive in your country?

My parents transferred my brother's college assurance plan to me and they only paid $311 (Php14,000) for the whole plan. So, it turned out that my tuition was only about $39 per semester at a private university. My brother also studied at a state university so making use of the plan isn't a good idea. I think his tuition then was less than $10 per sem and he took Electrical Eng'g and that's for five years. I think the fifth year won't be covered if he will use it so they just transferred it to my name.

Good thing that assurance plan still works considering we have a lot here that are closed already. Anyway, that's good to know. You're and your brother are lucky then.

@Macarrosel yup, after I graduated, that company started not to pay for its scholars... and I think we will no longer get the ROI.

College education in America is outrageously expensive. Absurdly so. I'm still paying for it and I graduated 15 years ago.

@NJChicaa so there no way I can send my daughter to the U.S. for her to proceed her master there for I can't afford it. Well, I have no plans to send her there anyway.

I think it is expensive to have education in private school here in our country. I am lucky that I am a dean lister during my university days.

@Macarrosel it would be uncomfortable going to school during the summer months (april and may) if the classrooms don't have a/c

@hereandthere seems fine with them and most of the classrooms in their school are fully airconditioned. They did calendar shifting to follow other countries like the U.S. who start their classes every August and ends up on May.

Have you heard about calendar shifting? Some universities are now on calendar shift, means they are changing the start of classes from June to August and end of classes on May instead of March. That's why my daughter is schedule to graduate in June 13. She is not an Octoberian.

You know that our education fee here is not too much not like in foreign land. My 3 boys had passed some scholarship granted by our state universities but the courses they don't like the courses offered so they enrolled in private universities. Wow, like mother like daughter beauty and brains.

@Macarrosel That is true, state universities are cheaper compared to private universities but they like the school, that's important if they like the school they're going to enroll.

Yeah, courses being offered in state universities depend on their scores in their scholarship exams. My daughter didn't follow the course being offered to her instead she took BSBA. That's why I paid some amount but still lesser compared to private universities.

Just like you i am so happy too that we spent less for our only child's scholl expenses. She was a ascholar since high school and until she graduated last May 22 , in Medicine . Even her review classes which was supposedly for 14,000 pesos was only paid for 4000 pesos. it is an advantage that we have smart children .

Here in the US, it is very expensive. I am currently taking my Master's, and if not for tuition reimbursement from the company that I am working for, I don't think I will pursue this at this time. I also graduated from a State University, PUP to be specific. I owe it to that school my passing the CPA board exam. And yes, my parents never have to take on loans of any sort just to send me to college.
