I stayed over with my friends in Rochdale on Saturday night and after we got up I chatted with them until lunchtime today before leaving to head for home. I am very grateful to my friends for their wonderful hospitality. Back home, I was concerned for my Mum given that despite her heart condition, my sister had thrown a quite lavish 30th birthday party for the girlfriend of one of her sons. I was saddened to find some of the guests had returned to carry on the party, with lots of their food and drink still around. I was not invited to participate or eat any of it and none of the guests even said hello to me. My mum being diabetic could not enjoy much of the very rich buffet of cakes and savouries laid out round her and being totally unwelcome – a gate-crasher in my own house, I ended up making tinned soup for myself despite a veritable banquet on the tables. Most of the party rubbish had been thrown in the wrong recycling bins too. That could get my mother fined. My mum looked tired and she had received one big scare from a bursting party balloon, of a kind that really shouldn’t have been put up given her sensitive condition. My Mum slipped away to bed about ten pm, and the last of my sister’s guests left at midnight taking most of the food with them. The photo here is of Rochdale Town Hall Arthur Chappell

I find it hard to excuse not even speaking to you. I have often said "Good Morning" when passing someone on the street as I walk to the Metrolink and invariably get a reply.

@arthurchappell We all have family arguments, but that behaviour is inexcusable.

@Asylum totally agree - it takes bitterness and raw hatred to a whole new dimension

Attempt 2 at responding. Your sister and her guests were rude and inconsiderate. It might be wise to have a discussion with her.

@Morleyhunt tried before - it results in a tantrum from her and nothing more - thinking of recording our next conversation though - hoping to get her to admit on tape that its all down to my calling my nephew a thief (on the grounds that he was stealing off me)

@Morleyhunt and often over petty things that shouldn't matter yet somehow get really nasty and unforgiving

This seems to be fast becoming an impossible situation for you. I cannot believe that no-one spoke to you. That really is unforgivable.

I like the building. The clock tower is somewhat reminiscent of Big Ben.

Some people are so rude, not worth speaking to. Hope your mum is less tired and you both have a nice day.

my sister is easy to ignore when not in my mum's house but my mum's health crisis draws her straight into collision with me and alienates me from communication with my own mum

I have to admit, I would have been tempted to just go make a plate anyways.
