Taking Care Of Business

Yesterday I left the house a 9 AM and headed to Niagara On The Lake.
Once again the store in NOTL was out of my signs (my art) so they were happy to see me and I will be happy when they send me a check. I'm sending out bills today.
From there I went to the Chocolate Factory in a neighboring town that sells my smaller pieces. I am not happy with that store because the boss doesn't understand the concept of Consignment. She thinks she can sell my art and then use the money instead of paying me. I'm supposed to wait until she gets more...? Consignment means she gets half and I get half. I will send her a bill today and when its paid I will remove the few pieces still left in her store. Her loss not mine.
My next stop was at the Welland Canal Museum. I had to take a detour to get there (construction) and then had to wait as a ship went through the lift bridge. It is a government run business so there is no trouble getting paid, they send me checks and I don't have to send them a bill...win win. I stop by just to be sure they have enough stock and I keep track of the stock.
When I left, the same ship had gone through the lock at the museum and was going through the next lift bridge. I wasn't using that bridge so I got ahead of the ship, pulled over and took some photos. Two of them are posted above. Did you notice the lift bridge in the photo. It was on its way down. The ship had passed.
My last stop was one of the winery's that sells my work. They sell a lot of my slate and always pay on time.
So life is good. I enjoyed my day driving around the area and taking the time to use my camera. Now its time to paint.
I hope your day was as interesting as mine...I do this once a month.

Living on the shore of Lake Ontario we often see lift bridges. The super highway goes over that very tall bridge so there is no slowing it down. I use both depending how much of a hurry I'm in.

They sure don't seem to know much about running a business. I wonder why the box of slate was behind the desk.

Business is good. I am going to get out of that store that i'm not happy with. I did an inventory and sent a bill for all the slate that was gone. They called today and said they found a box of the slate behind the desk so they don't owe me the money I thought they did. i asked while I was there where the over stock was and the woman in charge said its gone so I assumed she knew what she was talking about. I'll stop tomorrow and do another invintory and might bring all the leftovers home.....i'm tired of their way of running a business.

@Marcyaz it should have been in the storage room. we looked there and it wasn't. I just delivered slate the the store that is selling them like hotcakes and stopped at the chocolate place and figured it out. I will just redo the invoice and when paid I'm out of there.

I've been doing it for a long time and slowly getting my numbers down to a manageable amount of work. I'm getting a bit tired of working so much. I'm down to 5 stores now from over 8-10 and soon I will be down to an easy 4 (two wineries and two busy tourist stores.) I like to play now more than I like to work.

@PainsOnSlate I don't blame you - you don't want your art to become a chore.

This particular canal is big enough for two ships pass by each other safely. Very interesting watching the ships on the trip.

We are part of the Great Lakes and the ships use the canals to get from one to the other, its big business around here.

I have traveled that whole canal, I love to watch the ships too. I like chatting with the people on the ships at the locks if they are chatty. Some are, some are too busy...
