Hadrian’s Gate in Antalya

Hadrian's Gate in Antalya

Today I decided to take the bus to Antalya, which was actually much bigger than I had anticipated. The old town appears to be slightly separated from the main section, but very lively and with plenty of side streets littered with shops. The photograph is of Hadrian’s Gate in the old town, which was built in the Roman era to commemorate Emporer Hadrian’s visit back in the year 130. The picture may not be very well taken, but it was extremely difficult trying to use the camera in the bright Sun. All that I could see was my reflection in the mobile phone, which was not a pretty sight. I must have taken close to 20 shots in the hope that at least a few would be reasonable.

I've had that same difficulty - you just have to aim blindly and hope something comes out. Yours has come out very well.

@ElizabethWallace As you say - wasn't it annoying when you got a shot of your feet etc.?

We can do this now that we don't have to pay for film! Gosh that was awful when we had to pay for the lousy shots. What a waste that was.

This is one of the few that came out okay out of a massive number of shots. Some cut the top of the towers off or completely missed part of a tower.

@arthurchappell Very true, whereas my mobile phone has a 23 mp camera and will hold thousands of full resolution images. These can then be transferred to my laptop and the camera cleared.

There were just a few good ones out of all my attempts, but I was very happy with the end result.

Its so amazing that the Roman era still remains in stone in most parts of Europe. I hope it will always be like that. What a lovely image and thank you for sharing, I am sorry I was late in getting here, but I was such a moody ol griper yesterday. Are you back yet?

Hadrian sure got around, didn't he? I saw a Hadrian's gate years ago when I was in Athens. Also there's a Hadrian's wall in England, right? The photo is very nice! You sure are a long way from home....

Yes I am, but so was Hadrian. It was a harsher journey for Hadrian than it was for me because I was able to fly to Turkey.

I have the same problem just with my camera. Have no idea what I'm taking sometimes.

It can be almost impossible in strong bright sunlight.

Quite a few of the shots cut the top off or even missed one of the towers, so it was just as well that I took so many. It can be seriously difficult directing a camera when you cannot see the picture displayed.

You have taken a good picture there Barry. Have you not bought yourself a selfie stick?

I never take selfies. I could not see anything in the sunlight, so I took a load of photographs in the hope of some success.

The photo looks lovely to me. Were there really so few people around, or were you good at catching just the right moment to show the buildings without them?

That was just a fortunate moment with nobody in front of me. Most had cars driving by or several pedestrians walking past. As you say, it does look quiet on the shot.

I looks fascinating. I would visit here and try to catch many of the side streets as well.

The narrow side streets seem to reflect days gone by.

Wish I could see it. The same Hadrian as in the wall?

Yes, that is the same person. I knew that he had visited Britain, but had not previously known that he travelled to Turkey as well. Those were long journeys back in his days.
