I really want to see Hamilton - the musical on Broadway but all the tickets are sold out until the end of January 2017. The only tickets available on Ticketmaster are resell tickets. I checked many dates until the end of January to see how much people are selling tickets for. The price for one (resell) ticket ranges from around $700 and up. This is outrageous. While, I really want to see this musical there is no way I am going to lash out that much money. I am not crazy enough to do that. I wouldn't even if I were a millionaire. But it seems others are because every show seems filled to capacity.
I get that there is a high demand for this show and people want to cash in and profit on that but this kind of thing should not be allowed. It's one thing to resell a ticket for a bit higher than what it costs you. It is another thing to hike up the price by a ridiculous amount. Tickets that should be under $200 each are being sold for in the upper hundreds price range and even in the thousands.
What are your thoughts on this? Would you pay that much for a ticket if you could afford it?
A new batch of tickets will be available June 12th, 2016. Gonna try to buy them as soon as they become available for sale. Hopefully, it will be regular priced tickets and not resell ones.
UPDATE: Logged on to ticketmaster right when the tickets went on sale June 12th. Ticket prices were $179 or $199. Though high, much better prices. Was not able to get any tickets though. At first it said it was processing my request once I selected how many tickets I want but then after processing for a bit it told me no tickets available. And I was trying to get tickets for many dates for about 1 hr and was not able to get any tickets. :(

Yeah, that is just insane! I've never seen anything like this happen before where ticket prices are resold and such prices...

I really want to see this show and it is very frustrating that I cannot get tickets. The new batch that came out after the Tonys was reasonably priced (though still high) but I could not get tickets. My search never gave me any tickets except for the 900$ premium seats no matter how many times I tried. And I tried on different days after that to get tickets and no luck either. I wonder if any will be available and for how much.

I am outraged that selling tickets for such inflated prices is even allowed. And I had no idea that Broadway show tickets can even be resold.

The price of Broadway musicals on Broadway or on tour are now commonly dictated by demand. The bigger the demand, the higher the price and vice versa.
