What is the world coming to?!

I just read an article in a UK newspaper about some German Shepherd pups in New Zealand who are being trained up to be police dogs - cute little fluff balls they are, only a few weeks old who have obviously impressed the dog handlers enough to warrant training them to do such a hard job. Noble enough, BUT these poor little things are in the news because they're in the process of being fitted with STAB VESTS. Puppies and stab vests shouldn't even be used in the same sentence! That is crazy, there must be a high enough threat that a human is going to stab a police dog for them to order the vest (as no doubt they cost a fortune) - I'm kind of speechless, I thought I'd heard everything but never in a million years would it have occurred to be that police dog face that kind of threat.
