Break Up With Me–I’ll Sue

I heard on the radio this morning that a woman in Russia broke up with her boyfriend. They had been dating for two years and she broke up with him because he had not proposed to her.
The man on the other hand sued for all the money he had spent on her for the dates, dinners and gifts. The total came out to something like $680. (Maybe that’s a good reason to go Dutch.)
That figures out to be around $6.54 a week. I don’t know about in Russia, but here in the U.S. you are lucky if you can buy a movie ticket for that price. You certainly wouldn’t be able to buy a decent restaurant meal for that price. Maybe a cheap hamburger, fries and a drink at a fast food joint. So that means he probably didn’t take her out every week.
It is possible he took her out every other week. That would have been a cheap date at $13.08. Most likely he only took her out one a month spending $28.33. I’m just looking at what he spent on her and not the both of them. But then if he bought her gifts on top of that, then I can figure he didn’t even take her out even once a month or he bought her very cheap gifts.
But then they could have spent most of their time in and not going out. That would have been fine.
The overall question is, as the radio announcer put it, is it a silly lawsuit? Are lawsuits in other countries becoming as silly as some in the United States are?

Seriously? The guy tried to sue her for THAT? Maybe she should have sued him for wasting her time!
And only $680? He must have been a cheap date. No wonder he never proposed - he probably couldn't afford a ring - he probably couldn't even support a wife/family. Yes, it's a silly lawsuit . . . if that man could sue, so could a billion others who feel they "invested" in a date. I don't know much about what other countries sue for, but I thought our country ranked at the top for silly lawsuits!

Yeah, maybe she should sue him for leading her on. After all, she was expecting a proposal. I think other countries are getting the suing decease from the U.S.

@RichardMeister Maybe instead of suing, he should have just proposed to her!

@much2say That would have worked. But then he may have thought that would cost too much.
