Text alert sound won't work

When my cell phone gets a text it makes a sound, the screen lights up to show a preview and it vibrates. Yesterday the sound stopped working. I messed around with settings as well as updated things and rebooted it. I took the battery and sim card out for 5 minutes then replaced them and restarted it. Nothing has worked to fix this so I will try resetting the phone back to the way it was from the factory and see if that works.

I am so glad we don't "do" cell phones. Sounds like they can be a real hassle!

Oh my gosh the cell phones I have had with straight talk the past few years have been one problem after another.

@Genipher I got one about 15 years ago right after I graduated high school. I only had it a month or so before I realized I really had no use for it. Now I am always using mine to text or check emails or use apps like geocaching etc.

@shaggin The times they are a-changin'. Every now and again I've wished I had a cell. Usually during emergencies. But if I had one I'm afraid I'd be on it all the time. I can hardly stay away from the internet to live real life. With a cell, I would be a tech-zombie!

Did you check that the sounds are on? might be something simple as you did turn off sounds.

I got smart and did that but the only thing I couldn't do was test the ringer myself so I had to have someone dial it for me.

You might have to call to figure out what is wrong with your phone if that doesn't work.

@shaggin Oh no terrible customer service. Glad you were able to fix it.

I doubt straight talk would be able to tell me how to fix it. They have terrible customer service. Anytime something goes wrong with a phone they have you send it in and then send a refurbished one that usually has just as many problems. I did a factory reset and the text alerts are working again.

Yeah your best bet is to restart it from its factory settings etc

I just did the factory reset. I haven't gotten a text yet to be able to test it out though. I did hear a noise for a recieved email and that wasn't working before either so I think the factory reset fixed the sound problem.

Since I am laying here on the couch in pain unable to do anything I decided I might as well do a factory reset and see if that works. No better time then right now!

There is no where with straight talk to take it unless I file a claim that it is broken and then I have to send it in to be fixed and be without a phone. I would rather not have to do that as it is such a process then they just send a refurbished phone that usually has a lot of problems as well.
