I don't think there's anything on the guidelines against discussing earning to compare notes with each other. If you have not done so, it's best to familiarize yourself with the guidelines. Here's the help link that you will find indeed helpful especially to newbies:

I think its allowed. I posted about my earnings few days ago. It also helped to motivated other members.

You can discuss earnings here if you wish but there are certain things you should avoid (whether about earnings or anything else). The first is 'milestone' posts and the second is 'poll type' posts. There isn't a great deal that can be said in discussion to something like "I made $1 today!" and questions which only require very short answers (or can be answered with 'yes' or 'no' or similar) are likely to be considered 'poll type' and will very likely be removed.
You can find nearly all the information you need to know about earnings in the Earnings Program FAQs:

Yes it is allowed but I don't see a point of posting how much you made. You can say that it might inspire other people, but you can offend people. Yes, I understand when you make your first $1, it is exciting and that is fine if you want to post that, but I could see someone posting that they made $5 this month (just an example), and then a person tries to get that amount and becomes frustrated and feel like a failure.

@akalinus No you did not do wrong, it is allowed, but my personal take is it may upset people if they try and try and try and then don't make what other people are making.
