Where Did You Learn To Water Ski?

Do you remember the first time that you attempted to water ski? I have a vivid memory of that myself.
I was in the East China Sea off the coast of Okinawa. I had never tried water skiing before then. I have to say, with the waves coming in and the fear of sharks in the water, I had a real challenge staying upright.
Believe me, I didn’t want to fall into the water and wait for the boat to circle back around and pick me up, which is what I was told they would do, if I fell.
So, believe it or not, I didn’t fall! I stayed up, to the complete surprise of everyone in the boat, especially my husband.
Tell me about your first experience with water skiing.

Oh Lake Mead. I had dinner on a paddle boat on Lake Mead a few years ago, when we visited Hoover Dam. Beautiful Lake.

@IreneVincent It was a cloudy day, and the lake was as smooth as glass, until suddenly a storm hit. By the time we got to shore the waves were ten feet tall. The boat was swamped and sunk a few feet from shore. We had to wait for the storm to pass before we could pull it out.

I really enjoyed SNOW skiing more than water skiing, but I don't do either anymore. I still LOVE to go to the ski resorts though and enjoy the AMBIANCE of it all and watch others ski. My sons all love to snow ski.
We have a ski resort not far from here called Massanutten. It's nice but nothing like the Rocky Mountains, where I learned to snow ski or the Alps, of course. But, it has a nice LODGE and we stay in a LARGE condo that accommodates the whole family. The younger ones ski and I enjoy watching them and then in the evenings we enjoy the fireplace and play cards and games. It's a very nice week when we go.

@IreneVincent That would be lovely. My friend, their three sons and families went to Japan last year to a ski resort and had a wonderful time.

I gave it a try, but it never really was for me. I did enjoy the boogie board more... I might have got into skiing if I could do it barefoot I just found the skis themselves to uncomfortable... My Awesome Uncle and Aunt used to live on the Rock River in Janesville WI.. My uncle has passed on... recently.. but he was the one who taught me skiing and quite a bit about the River... I had a hard time keeping the skis right... My feet naturally wanted to cross them .. .. I was like well this is not for me lol ... I think it is just my natural responce to hiking in the woods and such when i felt sliding motion I'd naturally put on the brakes.. from wandering a lot on steep hills in the snow an ice around that time. :D It was really fun though .. .. I did how ever do better at snow skiing.. After an interesting little trip lol .. my first step on the snow i shot off like a bottle rocket .. and went flying down to small hills under a picnic table and stopped just inches of a woman .. i was like.. how do you slow down or stop in these things.. luckily the woman was an instructor and was able to tell me then and there.. then i laughs as she explained it.. as I remembered back to my braking issue on water skis lol.. it was fun though .. Any type of skiing sport is tricky for me because with my other sport of fast walking or olympic race walking i am used to leaning in my walk in certain ways naturally.. which on skis.. well turns into highspeed skiing lol.. i probably could get used to it but i had to put all shoe wearing sports one hold do to a ankle swelling issues.. after a bad injury, and later a bad infection. Have fun skiing!

Well, at least you gave it a try. It's not for everyone. I can understand that the fast walking would train you differently than water skiing would require. Makes sense. Sorry about your injury.
