I got a letter from Minnesota Life, the insurance company of my deceased friend. It was dated June 15, one month after my friend died. The letter was short and a bit testy, saying among other things:
"Please reply shortly so we may give this claim prompt attention."
I've now replied to them to let them know I'm working on the hurdles, er, documentation they require from me—a certified death certificate and the last four digits of my friend's social security number.
I also asked for their patience, as it seems a month isn't quite long enough for me to grieve a friendship of over 40 years.
What on earth can they be thinking? Maybe they think speedy processing is a comfort? I guess speed is better in the long run than them dragging their feet, but still, so soon.
So very soon.

@blitzfrick Find something to hug; a flower or even a tranquil twilight.

Sorry for your loss. I hope that the letter did bring news of a happier kind.

I'm just thinking that whoever is claiming from your friend's insurance would be happy that the insurance company is attending to the claim ..
But I do understand your grieving process .. condolences ..

Thank you, and I'm trying to see it from that perspective, that they're letting me know they're on the case, even if they are doing it in a rather heavy-handed sort of way.
