There are so many gestures that we can do to other people. It can give a good impression of who you really are. Holding hands are commonly seen to romantic couples and biological or non-biological parents with their children. In the Middle East and India, holding hands is common among men population because it is a sign of respect and brotherhood. I know what you are thinking. For some people, it may cause feeling cheesy for guys to hold each other hands in public. It is more acceptable to shake hands than holding hands. In your country, is it common for male friends to hold hands? Photo Credit: pixabay.com

@Shavkat Yes, it do think it is a stereotype but seems with all the talk about gay people now being so open it will change over time with the males holding hands.

@Marcyaz I wouldn't say anything if it refers to gay. It is acceptable that they can hold hands while walking on the street. I find it is uneasy if seeing real men do the same gesture.

It's not common for two male friends to hold hands, but I usually see them walking while putting one arm's over the shoulders of another...

@Shavkat Yeah, they'd rather walk side-by-side than holding hands.

To me it just shows that other person wants to be around with you.

@skysnap I guess it is. If that is the culture, then I will not complain about it. A sign of respect to them.

But why do people think it is normal when girls hold hand? I feel nervous and uncomfortable when people do these close touch to me,much less holding hands.I think it is weird for people to hold hands.Maybe I am too conservative.

Holding hand among with girls is common, but among boys looks chessy as you have mentioned. Among brother and sister is ok but when they grow up they too stop too..

It isn't at all common here but in Egypt we commonly saw this happening. It is sometimes hard to get used to the customs of other countries.

It is common for young couples in our country, even old ones who are so sweet through the years.Yes, we will feel awkward seeing two men holding hands, lest we will think something. I don't know it is a practice in the Middle East and India.Well differences in cultures and beliefs.

@acelawrites I think it is practiced mostly in a Muslim religion in another country. I also felt weird when someone did that to me in the country that I had been to.

It is not very common in our country for men to hold hands while walking, but it is very common to shake hands with each other when seeing each other after some time or when introduced to each other for the first time. Every culture has its way of communications and it is understandable to us. Thanks for your nice discussion.
