Time to Remember

Sun set over the Shannon River in Ireland

"Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling From glen to glen and down the mountain side The summer's gone and all the roses falling It's you, it's you, must go and I must bide" Today I paid a visited to my Bowling partner who had his leg amputated last year in August - do you all remember? He has been a little under the weather so I thought I would take him some goodies to lift his spirits. While we were chatting I heard some commotion and the sounds of music coming from the dining room of the Aged Home. I asked him what it could be and he mentioned that one of the Funeral Parlour's was there for the morning . . . that was strange? A Funeral Parlour in an Old aged home? Really? After our visit I ventured down the hall as curiosity was killing this cat. A duet of a man's band was set up in the dining hall and they were singing to the old folk. How marvelous this was to see! As i was leaving I inquired at reception who they were - and YES they are called the 'Avbob Senior Citizen Service Unit' who travel every week and entertain the folk at old aged homes. The last song I heard while leaving . . . my dad's favourite 'Danny Boy' got the tears streaming down my cheeks as I walked through the gardens, sending my Friday off the charts for the day. Have you ever had something spark an emotion that leaves you a little nostalgic, and you just cannot get on with anything else? I am sorry I left you all in the lurch - maybe tomorrow I will be a little more social. A little peak at Ireland as I remember. The sun sets over the Shannon River

There is something about Danny Boy that touches the heart strings I think, it makes me emotional too!! Was your father Irish? The Minstrel Boy I find even more emotional.

Madama Butterfly always reminds me of someone that I knew over 30 years ago.

@Inlemay I was delighted with the result and consider all the hullabaloo to be nothing more than a nervous reaction.

It doesn't take much to set off the memories sometimes. Who are the Springboks playing tonight? We have our third test against Wales.

@inlemay Smells to it for me and it's surprising how many times the smell of Africa crops up in Ireland and sets me off. Peaches, garden fires, bluegum trees, honeysuckle .....

It's such a sad song but I've always loved it. How nice of you to remember your friend and make a visit.

That is a pretty picture as the sun sets over the Shannon River. I remember when my brother in-law passed away he wanted Danny Boy sung and just hearing the name makes me remember him.

It doesn't take much does it to trigger memories, both sad and/or happy.
