This morning, I and my son went to church at 6:45 AM. We were able to attend the 6:30 AM mass because it started late. Well, actually, I requested my son to accompany me to church because I wanted to see how far has he learned from the driving school. He was first taught on how to drive a power steering car, and in 2 sessions, he has already mastered horizontal parking.
The car at home is manual steering and that is what he wants to learn now. So this morning, I drove the car until we reached a certain road where there were a few vehicles; I told him to drive the car.
At first, I was hesitant to allow him to drive, but I was also confident that he will do it. So after one almost-failed start, he finally got it right. He drove, but only before the road went uphill. I gave him some tips on parking, signal lights, and mirrors that he should always check.
I am a defensive driver and that was what I also told him. Several minutes ago, he left for another class on driving a manual steering car. The session will be from 5 PM to 7 PM.
Do you have faith and confidence when you allow your child to do something that he learned and show to you; example is driving a car and you are the passenger?

@ridingbet Yes, it's good if he'll have a student permit but he still has to have a licensed driver with him when he drives.

yes, because young children are still clumsy in holding and handling fragile items

@salonga he still needs some 'finishing touches'. i however, told him not to drive the car when my sister is the passenger. my sister is a backseat driver and she is always anxious even when i drive.

My sons are all grown up and have been driving for years. I had faith then, as I do now in their driving abilities. My younger son learned on a manual transmission, so he can drive both. They both went to driving schools, but my husband taught our younger son to drive that manual one. You and he seem to be doing a great job!

@ridingbet Automatic cars are easy for me. I don't feel comfortable driving manual cars.

yes, i think it is also better to teach how to drive a manual steering car. power steering is not very challenging, according to my son

@DianneN really? i prefer though the manual steering. it keeps me ever ready to push the pedals of clutch, brake and accelerator, and it also tests my presence of mind and my hand, foot, and eye coordination

@ridingbet I cannot, because I have no driver license, I should only practice on our private property and it's not big enough to drive.

I won't drive but my husband does. When my son knows driving, my husband was the one who taught him, the do's and don'ts, the precautions and others and he trusted my son and he said, how can our son knows well when he won't trust him do the driving.

there should be a complete trust to the driver so we can be sure that he brings the car safely to its destination

Like you, my son had just learned to drive from a driving school. Now he can do it well, but we do not allow him yet to drive on the highway in our place due to some unruly drivers, but later when he mastered it, we will let him. But he always drive me to the nearby church on Sundays.
