Monday Morning Blues

" Drat! the next holiday is on Sunday", the young man across my seat exclaims to his friend.
I smile at them ruefully .Their office has both Saturdays and Sundays off only on alternate weekends.
His remarks instantly generate an interest in our fellow passengers.
We belong to a tribe that stay away from our families due to job constraints.
Monday mornings we board the train back to our jobs.
Most of the older ones ,like me, nod off as the train speeds through the countryside.
Weekends can become pretty hectic.
The young folk are plugged into their earphones or engrossed in some game on their mobile.
"It's worse, when other holidays fall on weekends though , isn't it?" remarks the pretty young thing next to me.
She has our full attention. Out come the mobiles and everybody starts checking the holiday list.
2nd October, Gandhi Jayanti , Sunday
8th and 9th October, Durga Puja and Dussehra, Saturday and Sunday
29th October, Diwali Sunday
25th December, Christmas , Sunday.
"Argh", can things get any worse
It seems , it can. My phone rings and a colleague wants me to mail him a questionnaire ASAP.
"Give me 10 minutes", I say, as I rush down the steps of the railway station.
I did mail the darned thing last Friday. Can't think why it didn't get through to him..... I frantically wave at the waiting auto rickshaws.
My fellow passengers and me are swallowed up by these means of transport and transported to our jobs that are waiting.
What holidays do you all have? Do you'll look forward to them?

i used to look ferward to holidays, coz such meant more time spent with the family. these days they've either passed 'r scattered to the wind. i find'em quite hauntin', the lack'f laughter'n enthusiasm that once was.
fer quite a few years i worked nights, e'ery weekend 'n most all holidays (jest the way they fell). i attended family functions'n perhaps 2 hours sleep, then headed back to my job. i'd give anythin' to've that time back...

i'm most humbled, my friend. yer entitled to grumble, i dunno how i'd handle bein' 'way from my home that way. i admire folks who're able to do such. i'm purty much a home body. e'en 'fore i fell ill, i'd only venture to town 'bout once a month 'nless an emergency arose 'n there 'twas a need.
love that quote :D big hugs to ya!!

I am a kind of lady of leisure no more rushing and running for me. I have been there and done that. For me everyday could be a Monday or a weekend depending on my activities.

@responsiveme Gardening is my passion and I have help around to satisfy my passion. No garden can be maintained as large as the one I have without help.

I saw a picture of your garden,so that would require a lot of time.
Its good to be flexible but alas I am part of the huge workforce out there

the next holiday here in the US will be this weekend as it's the 4th of July celebrations and many workers are off on Monday. Since I'm retired now I don't have that daily commute to work and all the stress that goes with it

Wow, I had no idea so many of you, well you, especially, have to travel away from home for so long to work. I'm retired now, and only had to drive 18 minutes to my last job, then home again. I look forward to not working anymore, so every day is a holiday for me. Our next one is coming up quickly- our Independence Day, which we all call the 4th of July.

@responsiveme I'm sorry to hear this, but it is not uncommon here either. My friend and her husband had the same thing happen, but made it work for six or so years. Now they are happily together again in their retirement. Giant hugs to you!

Enjoy your celebrations.
We stay in separate places after husband got transferred, hence the 'blueish' feelings on Monday. I go on weekends and sometimes he comes over.
Otherwise the college is very near where I stay.
Changes, changes.......had to face quite a few.

So, will you get an extended weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday?
That's a good idea about following Monday being off. . Wonder why our Govt. doesn't take it up?

We have 10 national holidays for our company per year. So even if some festivals fall on Sundays and Saturdays we are OK. However the best day for a holiday is Monday or Friday. We get a long weekend. We sometimes extend it by taking a leave after or before so 4 days in a row.

@responsiveme that also.means I will on leave on 16th or 12th also. 4 days including weekends. And the understanding should be in the team members who will be in leave on which day

Not a holiday but a transition of leadership from the past President to the newly elected President on June 30.
