Birthday planning - in advance!

My son has a Christmas birthday which means his first few birthdays have been swallowed up in the festive preparations and celebrations - this year he turns six and after making a class full of friends I've decided to throw him a birthday party. A local family pub/restaurant offers a two hour party including playtime in their fab soft play area and a hot meal - I've been toying with the idea for a while but we popped in this morning for breakfast and when I mentioned it to the lady who served us she said I'd be best to book the party now even though it's nearly six months away. Apparently (and I believe this) the three weeks before Christmas gets booked quickly with nursery parties, and these start being booked from July so I need to get in quick to get the date and time I want. It seems crazy to be booking a party so far in advance, but at least it gives me plenty of time to make some nice party bags up for the guests (and also time to save up as the cost of this party is honestly scandalous!). That does seem ridiculously early, but if you've decided that's what you want you might as well book it. Gone are the days when we invited a few children round and had a game of pass the parcel or musical chairs. So much is expected nowadays.

I was thinking exactly the same.

I would never book a party six months in advance. If you are absolutely sure of the day and the location and you are happy with your decision, I fear that you have to book now.
