Russia Funded Vote Leave?

I've heard a few rumours suggesting that the Vote Leave campaign for the UK to leave the EU was funded by Russia. The reason being to destabilise Europe. Sounds sort of crazy at first look, doesn't it? However... Vladimir Putin, the ruler of Russia, is a former member of the KGB, an organisation that tended to do things like that and had a history of using patsies in Britain to do their work for them. Putin seems to want to expand Russia's borders again, to former Soviet republics. The EU was rapidly expanding in that direction, admitting former Eastern Bloc states. Putin seems to be the only leader genuinely happy with the result. A unified Europe is a political and military deterrent to an expansionistic Putin. The EU is now a lot less unified, and is going to lose one of its most powerful members, to the detriment of both. Might sound crazy, but it also sounds worryingly plausible. Europe has certainly been destabilised. Anyone else heard these rumours?

I think it's absolute rubbish. If the russians had funded the campaign I'm sure it would have come out by now.

It does sound daft, and I would have thought that it would have come out. But, then you think, there are plenty of ways of funding something indirectly. More than one bit of corporate or government skulduggery hasn't come out until years later.

Theories are theories. No matter what happened or what Russia have done its done now.

If it was true, though... that would be a different story. The entire vote would be suspect and the result would have to be chucked out.
