"Tupig" is a local glutinous rice recipe in the Northern Philippines. It is made up of sticky rice, young coconut, coconut milk and sugar, rolled in banana leaves. It is then roasted in burning coals until it is done. Whenever someone goes to the Northern Luzon, I always ask for "tupig" as "pasalubong," (welcome gift). This morning I saw the "tupig" vendor and I bought some for my family. The vendor sells tupig every Wednesday in our wet market. She said she is from Northern Luzon but married a man from our place, so we also have "tupig" here though we are far from NorthernLuzon. Do you have native delicacies from a particular place which you like?

I don't think we have anything special from this area. Tupig sounds nice.

Yes, my friend, I don't know the other names for it. I just fell in love with it when I bought it a long time ago in Ilocos Norte.

I told you , we have exactly the same type of food habits. Here sometimes the mixture is put inside bamboo and then roasted, also in banana leaves and steamed. The sticky rice is available also especially December and January.

So true, we have the same food habits. They also put the sticky rice with coconut milk inside a bamboo then roast it. Maybe we got it from you or you from us? There is a place here near Metro Manila that was used to be a village where early people from India lived. It is near Laguna Lake, and they say they were traders who lived and remarried Filipinas here.
