Everyone likes chocolate chip cookies, right? I don't actually. I like soft cookies. Brownies? Now we're talking. In 1938 Ruth Grace Wakefield owned the Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. She wrote a cook book which was a best seller. She included a cookie called "Toll House Chocolate Crunch Cookie". Her cookie became very popular and the Nestles semi-sweet chocolate bars became popular too. Andrew Nestle and Ruth Wakefield made an agreement for one dollar. It was that Nestle could use her Toll House name and she would get a lifetime supply of the chocolate. Soon he was packaging chocolate chips and the recipe was printed on the side of the bag.

Sweet! I've always wondered where the Toll House name originated. Chocolate chip cookies are the first thing I ever learned to bake from scratch. I confess I'm immoderately fond of them, but brownies are great too. So are blondies, when done properly.

Chocolate chip cookies can be soft too, if made right.
