What Can A Deficiency of Vitamin D In Your Diet Mean?

Some people are not able to get enough natural sun to give them enough of this vitamin. Even people in sun drenched locals are being found to have Vitamin D deficiency.
Vitamin D is important to nearly every organ in our bodies. A deficiency of this vitamin can increase the risk of a heart attack by 50%. It also is important in fertility. People who suffer from migraines are said to have deficiencies in riboflavin, coenzyme Q10(CoQ10) and vitamin D. Vitamin D also is important to those who might suffer from neurological and mental disorders such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and schizophrenia and depression.
We need to remember that we must expose large areas of skin on a daily basis to get the amount of Vitamin D we need. Many are unable to do this.
To know if you are low in Vitamin D you can get a testing done in December/January and again in June/July to test your higher and lower levels.
The Osteoporosis Society of Canada says that for people up to age 50 should take 400 IU per day and for those over 50 800 IU per day is recommended.
Vitamin D is a anti-inflammatory as well as stress and pain on joints. It also guards against obesity by keeping the body fat levels lower. This vitamin can prevent rheumatoid arthritis, protect against radiation, improves immune system, aids in insulin secretion, helps prevent several cancers, maintains good brain function, and helps in keeping bones strong.
Many kinds of fish such as herring and cod have vitamin d in them. Egg yolks, milk, butter, edible mushrooms and many cheeses also have this vitamin in them. Some orange juices, cod liver oil, tofu, pork and fortified cereals also have the vitamin it them.

@AbbyGreenhill I was told by a friend who is also deficient that it could take up to a year to get it right again. I really hope she's wrong.

I know I need it along with other ones. yet if I am not careful how much supplement vitamins I take, it affects my digestion. so I try and take at least one One A Day every day during a meal for best obsorbtion. but not sure anything is going to help the break down of this old body any more

One of the great things about vitamin D is that you can take a sizeable supplement regularly without worrying about taking too much.

I know I am not getting enough of all vitamins, but I do get enough sun, so I assume I am getting a good dose of Vitamin D.

I guess we have to have great expanses of skin showing out in the sun to be sure we get enough of the vitamin.

@AbbyGreenhill ....Now. They aren't. I get mine in a twin pack. My last test showed that I am at 41ML and am supposed to be between 30 and 80ML.

I recently got a bottle of vitamin D3 in for review...5000IU My mom says that is way too much to take daily. I already wrote the review on amazon but maybe I should look up what the 3 means behind it as the bottle says to take one daily. I keep forgetting so it's been more like 1 evwry other day or two.

Then you are probably okay. If you get annual check ups the doctor will tell you if you are deficient in this vitamin.

Yes, it does. I didn't want to make the piece any longer but would have liked to go into things like that.

That's good. I envy you the salmon. I love it and can't afford it very often.
