Sedona - Oak Creek Canyon

Recently, I found my photos of my trip to Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon, Arizona. So, I thought I would share a few thoughts about that trip. This scenic area covers about 500 square miles and is located about 100 miles south of the Grand Canyon and about the same distance north of Phoenix. My friend and I were visiting another friend, who lived in Phoenix and she took us to Sedona. What a beautiful day that was. The weather was perfect and the scenery was unbelievably beautiful. Oak Creek Canyon is an impressive gorge going down to a maximum depth of 2,500 feet. The diversity of this Red Rock Country features rocky canyons, towering buttes, desert grassland and a ponderosa pine-fir forest. The climate of this area is considered to be semi-arid. The rock formations here have been carved by water and erosion over thousands of years and changes in the landscape continue. Stone pillars called “hoodoos” are often seen in this area. These spires sometimes resemble persons, animals and even mythical creatures in the eyes of the beholder. Have you ever visited the Sedona area? It’s well worth the trip. Picture by Pixabay

I have been to both Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon in fact me and the kids used to rent a cabin in the summer in Oak Creek Canyon and had so much fun there. Then drove to Jerome or up to Flagstaff and just had a good time.

Oh that sounds like a wonderful thing to do, to rent a cabin. I love doing that too. From a cabin you can take DAY TRIPS to different areas around where you are staying. We used to do that, but not for a long time now.

@IreneVincent No, we haven't yet. A young friend of ours rang from there the other day. We do hope to visit Uluru before we die. Western Australia has a monolith which is even bigger but because it is covered in vegetation it hasn't achieved the fame of Uluru. The one in our state is called Mt. Augustus.

My husband and I have visited Old Tucson. I will have to find my pictures from there also. I've been finding and sorting pictures over the last few months and I'm sure I will come across them at some point. I know you must enjoy that whole area immensely. We really enjoyed our trips to AZ.

Arizona is so very different from VA. There is so much desert type landscape there, so beautiful in it's own way, compared to all the green hills and mountains here in VA. Quite a contrast. Both beautiful. And I know that Canada is full of beautiful areas also.

@paigea I agree with that. The earth is a beautiful place, but man is ruining some of it, unfortunately.

I have been to Sedona and surrounding area. It is beautiful around there. Sedona is now sort of an upscale community and tourist town.

Yes, we noticed how many artists live there and thoroughly enjoyed walking around in the town and taking it all in. A lot of Native American art and some of the most beautiful paintings I've ever seen. I especially appreciated the paintings with Indian faces in the clouds.

This particular picture was from Pixabay, but I have some very similar to it. Not sure how to get them up on myLot, since they were taken with a digital camera. I printed them out, but no longer have the camera. Maybe I can figure I out.

Yes, they really are that color. It's called Red Rock Country, but the rocks are more ORANGE than red. It's an unbelievable landscape.

The panorama of nature. Why build tourism destinations when the natures provide them all.
