Northern Pike

This fish is a Northern Pike that was caught by a fellow fisherman the last time I went fishing. They have powrful jaws and needle sharp teeth you want to use needle nose pliers when taking them off the line. White, yellow, and chartreuse are great pike lure colors, probably because they resemble the belly of a struggling fish. Jerk bait is good to use for bait as are daredevils. They like to hide in deep water and heavily weeded areas, they will attack walleye or large mouth bass. I found online that Lothar Louis caught a northern pike in the Lake of Greferrn in Germany on October 16th, 1986 that weighed 25 kg (55 lbs. 1 oz.)

@DianneN How do you taste the fish when you also eat horseradish?

There are quite a few of these to be nabbed when fishing in some of the lakes and ponds in our area. We have caught one or two.

wow - that is a great looking specimen - my hubby is a very keen fisherman and is off to do sea fishing in 8 days time. Maybe he catches a "snoek" as we call a pike - they are great on the braai (barbecue)

I'm not into fishing, especially after reading this! However, I have eaten pike on many occasions.
