Long time ago when I was in my teens I was going through a lot of emotional turmoil. Those were not the normal ones teens generally go through.
I lost my father when I was twelve. He was the only one I would go to for any kind of heart to heart talk. After his passing on things changed a lot at home.. Mom was keen on putting food on the table.. My brothers gave up their dreams of higher education.. All of them settled for a college degree and started working and I was left alone to figure things out for myself.
It was then I met an old priest and I immediately liked him. He was always ready to listen to me and brought out the best in me. His words of wisdom helped my keep my focus on studies and whenever I achieved something he would say - "The best is yet to come my girl, the best is yet to come." He passed on after a few years but his words have always remained with me to inspire and motivate me at the toughest points of my life.
Even today when I go through some major setbacks I say these word to myself.. The best is yet to come my girl.. Its just around the corner.
I didn't have a lot of time with my first mentor but he had already sown the seeds of positivism deep within me. It has just been growing and growing over the years.. and thanks to him I always look forward to the best.
Do you have a mentor or a guru in your life?

@sunilparthan Its been many years now.. And yes I was lucky to have met him at the right time... I know things would have gone terribly wrong for me if not for him. I am so happy for you that your mentor is your own father.

@sofssu See this is why i still believe that god is there. When you was in a problematic situation a person came and changed everything with his words.

well, aside from my teachers, i consider my late mother and my sister as my greatest mentors. my mother taught me life itself, and my sister, how to live with other professionals.

I don't have one but I find inspiration from many sources.
My parents have lived very worthy lives and were an inspiration.
I have learned never to lose hope.
I recall few sayings that are planted deep within my mind:
The darkest hour is just before the dawn
This too will pass.
Never allow another to make you unhappy
Soon all will be water under the bridge - siva

@crazyhorseladycx I used to have nightmares for years. He would always come back and disappear in my dreams.. This pious old priest helped me through it all.

It's a GOOD thing when you have someone who can offer words of wisdom to you and that was a good thing that he said that stuck with you. "The best is yet to come." We never know what is just around the corner for us.
Here's something you might enjoy reading about the meaning of life.
To question the meaning of life, some also ask: Why are we here? Does my life have a purpose? You can consider fundamental truths that the Bible reveals.
