Telephone Scams

Lately, I have been inundated with phone calls from what I would consider to be “scammers.” Usually, I don’t answer the phone if I don’t recognize the number. I figure that if it’s important the called will leave a message and then I can return the call.
In the last few weeks, I have received a call from a number I don’t recognize, but is in my same area code. I have answered it a couple times to hear this recorded message that the IRS is suing me. And that I need to call a certain number. It was even on the news that it was a scam and listeners were to call the police to report such calls. Have you gotten a call like this.
There is also another caller who uses a number in my area code. The recording says. “Please don’t hang up” and goes on to explain that my Google account is involved some way. I immediately hang up and it makes me so angry that I keep getting these calls that interrupt what I’m doing. I usually don’t answer at all, as I said.
A third caller involves a message about my car warranty, saying that it is about to be affected in some way. I don’t even OWN a car. The car I drive belongs to my son and the title is in HIS name.
Have you gotten any of these types of calls recently? They are so annoying. I got on the “no call” list but it doesn’t seem to be working.
Sometimes I let my grandson answer and if it’s a live person, he pretends to speak in another language and mock them. He loves to do it. LOL
I also heard of an online scam where the caller claims to have kidnapped your child and then they want you to open a picture of your child to prove they have it, and if you open the attachment, a computer virus is unleashed designed to steal the user's passwords and gain access to online bank accounts and other personal information.
Be very careful. I don't open anything that looks suspicious.

@IreneVincent While I have not come across such scams,my brother received a call saying it is from his bank .They wanted to
to check his debit card number. They are careful to point out they do not need the pin.But as already his friend had received such a call,he said he will talk about this personally with the bank manager. So that person hung up.His friend had given the card number and his money was gone from the account. How they do that I know.

A lot of scams like this is occurring lately, as I was almost a bitumen too. Law enforcers told me to be very careful, and not give out financial information on the Internet.

I have received all sorts of calls especially the IRS scams. We just block all calls we don't know and in our same area code we will look up the number to see whose calling. Figures if it's important they'd leave a message and they never do anyway!

I will have to figure out how to BLOCK the calls. I have a new phone and I'm just learning how to use it. I'll ask my son to show me how to do that. Thanks.

@infatuatedbby Thanks. I'm sort of technically challenged. I always get my son to do things for me or show me how to do it.

We answer all calls because we have an elderly family member who is in ill health and any call could be an emergency. Lately, I've gotten so once I've established that call is 1) a telemarketer or 2) a scam, I simple set the phone done and walk away, continuing to do what I was doing before the phone rang. Whatever verbal abuse is heaped upon me, I'm blithely deaf to. Plus, there's less time taken out of my day and (evil laugh) more out of theirs.

I used to be telephone operator and there were annoying calls way back then, but nothing like today, with persons trying to STEAL your money out of the bank.

@IreneVincent I was a cashier for years. People have always tried to trick you out of money—anything from saying you gave them the wrong change, to trying to grab money out the draw to violence. People haven't changed, just the technology.

Those are bold scams. Usually I get solicitation calls in waves and they never leave a message.

we have a lot of these scammers too about bank account being frozen, then telling us that we have won a lottery...the sad thing is that people fall for it.

Yes, it's a scam all right. I think it's going on in a lot of different states.

You have to be careful of opening up some websites because they contain malicious virtues.

Television shows have stated that law enforcement agencies and the I R S will send you a letter stating a problem you have with them. They insist a phone call making threats to you is not in their agenda. My sister had to deal with a scammer and I look it up on internet and on the I R S website and they said it is a scam.
