Back to Normal

Well, what is normal? Ha! But last week was pretty...well, not normal. It was fine up to Wednesday but I was awakened with a phone call saying mom's house was flooding. My sister Karan, who lives a half hour away co-owns the house and wanted me to jump up and help sop up water to protect the walls. She was on her way with a wet vac. Disaster was averted with the walls. I replaced the towels--twice, but there was still water everywhere. When she arrived and they wet vacuumed up the water, she called a company to dry out the carpets in three rooms and a hall. Mom and my sister Janet, who lives with her moved in with me for a few days. It was actually pretty fun having them, we watched movies, went out to lunch, went thrifting, crafted, cooked and just did all kinds of girly stuff. Janet called it a slumber party! All is well back at their homestead now. The walls were not damaged, but the carpet must be replaced and a new drain field for the septic has to be put in. I am anticipating another party when each of these activities happen. It was fun to have unexpected company. Now the house is very, very quiet!

@sunilparthan The flooring is fun, she will have hardwood floors now but a new drain field is not.

Yes, but the cost of new flooring and a drain field will run into the thousands. It's good they split major repairs.

When life hands you lemons you make lemonade or lemon meringue pie! Sounds like a delightful time was had by all despite the disaster that had happened.

Time enough for them to mourn the loss of the carpet and drain field when it comes around to replacing and paying for it. This is the time to rejoice in how little damage and the excitement of a few days away from home.

I can imagine that would have been fun. I would hate to have a house flooded. I'm glad it wasn't worse.

They were lucky that you were able to put them up. What caused the flooding?
