Elie Wiesel was a Nobel Peace Prize winning author and Holocaust survivor who dedicated his life to educating people about the horrific events of the Holocaust.
He was born in my home country of Romania, then he was taken to Auschwitz where he survived and then spent the rest of his life trying to ensure the events are never forgotten. He wrote down all of his terrifying experiences.
He died on July 2 in Boston.

Sadly people get old and pass on. It is good that he made such a huge effort to make sure that the historical knowledge lives on.

I haven't heard of this man but I have heard quite a bit about Auschwitz and the holocaust. It was a terrible period in history.

So sad. He was an inspiration to millions and hopefully instilled in all of us to never ever forget what happened during the Holocaust.

I'm sorry to hear he passed away. Hopefully we'll never forget nor repeat the atrocities.
