On The Subject Of Illegal Fireworks....

Dallas, Texas

So with Independence Day coming to a close, I trust everyone enjoyd the fireworks, family outings, and barbecues? Now then, I want to ask about illegal fireworks... To my knowledge they're fireworks, and firecrackers set off by the average joe instead of a professional. So here's my question:"What did I miss in the past 20 years? because when I was a kid around 1996 or 1997 during Independence Day, me a few kids I was acquaintances under adult supervision set off firecrackers and a rocket in Broken Arrow Oklahoma. So what did I miss? When did this sort of this thing become illegal? I ask, because I tried looking this up, and came up empty.

I can't say for the USA but in Australia the sale of fireworks has been illegal for a long time. There were too many injuries I think so they banned them altogether.

@Hanyouyomi I probably move in the wrong circles but no, I don't think so. If they let them off in town, they'd be quickly dobbed in. There are huge fines for the sale of fireworks - up to $27,000 and on the spot fines of $1,000 so that tends to put people off breaking this particular law.

@Hanyouyomi They're not joking with the fines are they?

Fireworks is a huge thing in my country during New year's eve and people are losing fingers because of it.

@CaptAlbertWhisker Y'know given that you're the third acquaintance I've met from the Phillipines, I don't know how to take that. I'm tempted to ask the other two phillippinos I know if they've seen the same thing regarding fireworks....

@CaptAlbertWhisker Excuse me, "yearly?" What? I---Wow... And sure, post the link. I can't watch it until I get my hard drive reformatted, but I'll give it a look... At my own peril... Yearly though... Wow...

In my country, fireworks became illegal when fireworks became more dangerous. And every New Year (when we want fireworks) more people came to hospitals with third degree burnings.

@marguicha Wow... Holy chips... That makes sense actually. Question, do people still set off fireworks despite this?

@Hanyouyomi A lot less. In the other hand, thecouncils and towns have safe fireworks in exchange. And they are a lot better.

I live in an area that's been in a drought for years and we have had some pretty bad fires in the past couple of years so that's why we aren't allowed to have them.

I'm not sure what is legal or illegal. I do believe sparklers are legal in my state of CT. On the night of July 4th my neighbor's house (which is about 20 feet from my own house) burned down, caused by a smoldering sparkler in his trash can. I'm for banning all fireworks in the home. Luckily, my house was spared but it was a very close call.

It's not the Fourth of July quite yet here, and there are fireworks going off all over the place. The entire neighborhood is alive with kids and adults shooting off fireworks, but they are not illegal. There are some that they are not allowed to buy because they are dangerous, but the rest are no problem. There have been times when they have banned fireworks in the city limits due to dry conditions, but that's all.

@peavey Yeah that was my mistake, as I thought Independence Day was yesterday. All the celebrating around me kinda threw me off, and I didn't bother to check the date. But it's Monday, the 4 currently 12:27p.m. and upside is I already made the Barbecue, so we have leftovers tonight. xD And I should have figured they were banned due to dry onditions and probability of startering fires... Or the risk of physical injury.

There's talk in the UK about banning them for public sale but it hasn't happened yet
