A New Approach

I am writing this in part to make myself accountable.
One of the things we need to stop doing is eating out, except when we are traveling. We make it too easy to eat out, though, because we buy gift cards and keep in a folder for various restaurants. We do that to be sure to budget for eating out and because we can buy them at our grocer's and get fuel points to save on the cost of gasoline.
This can be translated though into the idea that we have money tied up in food cards that we could use elsewhere.
There are other gift cards available, with all the same perks, though. We are not planning any trips away for a while, so if we need to boost our fuel card balance by buying gift cards, we are going to get Lowe's gift cards.
Lowes is a home improvement store. We learned last year that Lowe's will deliver here, whereas Home Depot will not. I have specific things I am saving up for with my online earnings. I just ordered a swagbucks redemption in Lowe's cards as well. I can get a $100 Lowe's Card from Pinecone and I am almost there.
By next winter I hope to have a new gas cook stove and new dishwasher for my house. Purchased at Lowe's, and delivered and installed by them. I also hope to have eliminated some eating out and driving to do so. As I said, this is a different approach to something I am already doing and I will report my progress here.
Of course my myLot cash outs go to PayPal, as do some other earnings. Those earnings will go to my bank account to be spent at Lowe's as well. Win-win-win. Am I missing some places to redeem for Lowe's? How do you spend your online earnings?

I think thats a brilliant way of budgeting ... for meals or at lowes or other stores for other needs....
I only earn from here ..which I am saving.... to use on line at amazon .... but I am travelling to america later this year... so I might look into restaurant gift cards.... to help our holiday budget....
Thanks for sharing this clever idea....

How do you change your PayPal to Amazon Credits, or do you put it in the bank and then spend at Amazon? I earn at Swagbucks and if I was not saving for Lowe's I would be getting Amazon gift cards for shopping. What are your destinations when you reach America/

@GardenGerty I'm sorry Heather @GardenGerty, but I have not changed my PayPal money yet... but I would probably just purchase gift cards.... we will be visiting Virginia state and new mexico , as we are doing a fly drive tour... but have not worked out a definite route yet....

That is still a good way to use them, so that you can treat yourself without breaking the budget.

It is so true you never go on holiday. Actually gift cards for chain restaurants would be kind of boring when you have some exotic choices when you are traveling.

This is what the Lowe's cards will be for and it is a much better use.
